A world premiere musical journey with two of the worlds most iconic women at the height of their power. It is 1993, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg has just joined the United States Supreme Court; the first and only other woman there, Sandra Day OConnor, is ready to welcome her and get to work. In an intimate, epic three-person new musical built of sweeping songs, urgent conversations about equality, and truly human heroines, we come to know these two iconic justices at the height of their power. Through a third character, Vera, rising through the ranks of the law, we discover how OConnor and Ginsburg inspire, challenge, and propel the next generation of changemakers and trailblazers in American jurisprudence. Ruth, Sandra and Vera confront each other about equal justice under the law, strategy, civil rights, husbands, kids, dreams, sorrows, and how to set a new course for our country and the world.

I was curious to see how Lauren Gunderson (book), Bree Lowdermilk (music) and Kait Kerrigan (lyrics) could make a musical about former Supreme Court judges Sandra Day O'Connor and the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg. And how does local performer Chanel Bragg figure into this Arizona Theatre Company world premiere?

In KUNSTLER, Jeffrey Sweet's powerful homage to a seminal figure of the '60's and '70's, the famed civil rights defense attorney, William Kunstler, is revealed in his more human dimension, and the history of the times is dramatically chronicled. The play is, at once, both intellectual and emotional ~and, in its current delivery, directed by Charles St. Clair at iTheatre Collaborative, exceptionally well-acted. Duane Daniels stars. Runs through February 1st.
iTheatre Collaborative presents Anna Ziegler's ACTUALLY. He Said. She Said. And The Quest For Truth. This is the scenario that is center stage in iTheatre Collaborative's stirring production of the play, tautly directed by Rosemary Close and featuring bristling performances by Elizabeth Broeder and Rapheal Hamilton. Runs through September 21st in the The Kax Stage at the Herberger Theater Center in Phoenix.
Virtuoso performances are the order of the day in Arizona Theatre Company's revival of August Wilson's TWO TRAINS RUNNING, directed by Lou Bellamy and featuring standout performances by James Craven, Alan Bomar Jones, Erika LaVonn, Ahanti Young, Lester Purry, Cedric Mays, and Dennis Spears.
