Harlem KW Project, LLC Brings RENAISSANCE IN THE BELLY OF A KILLER WHALE To Theatre Horizon

Harlem KW Project, LLC is bringing their electrifyingly popular production of RENAISSANCE IN THE BELLY OF A KILLER WHALE to Theatre Horizon (401 DeKalb Street, Norristown, PA) from February 23 through the 24, 2019. This montage of theatre, spoken word poetry, song, and more, is a deeply moving and uproariously funny exploitation of three young, native Harlemites coming to terms with a gentrified Harlem. "I am so excited to bring KILLER WHALE... to Theatre Horizon," said artist and popular Theatre Horizon performer Jaylene Clark Owens. "My company and I can't wait to bring a little bit of Harlem to Norristown and we are really looking forward to engaging in discussion about gentrification. I am especially happy that the Philadelphia Theatre community gets to see this piece that has been so dear to my heart for the past few years."

The production, co-written by Chyann Sapp, Hollis Heath, Janelle Heatley, and Jaylene Clark Owens, chronicles the gentrification of Harlem through the eyes of three women, journeying through the streets, history, landmarks, and evolving culture of their native neighborhood. Via a fusion of spoken word and song, they take an uproariously funny and deeply moving trip to embrace change while renewing a rich past. Their daring wish: to establish nothing short of a new Harlem Renaissance.

The mission of Harlem KW Project, LLC is to use 'Renaissance in the Belly of a Killer Whale' to facilitate discussion around gentrification, as well as encourage audience members to think critically about this topic, learn more, take action, and support the arts cultures within their respective communities. We hope to shed light on the positives and negatives of gentrification while paying homage to our beautiful village of Harlem, New York.
