The Canadian Opera Company presents a double bill of one-act operas as part of its 2012 spring season with the Canadian premiere of Alexander Zemlinsky's A Florentine Tragedy and the return of Giacomo Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, last seen with the COC in 1996. The two operas are presented in a new COC production by the legendary soprano-turned-director Catherine Malfitano and world-renowned conductor Sir Andrew Davis. A Florentine Tragedy is sung in German and Gianni Schicchi is sung in Italian, both with English SURTITLES™. The double bill of A Florentine Tragedy/Gianni Schicchi runs for eight performances at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts on April 26, May 2, 5, 12, 15, 18, 20 and 25, 2012.

The Adaptations Project proudly presents their inaugural production, Kaddish (or The Key in the Window), based on the poem by Allen Ginsberg. Kaddish (or The Key in the Window) is created and performed by Donnie Mather and directed by Kim Weild. Their most recent collaboration was WeildWorks' New York Premiere of Charles Mee's Fêtes de la Nuit, a 2010 Drama Desk Award nominee for Unique Theatrical Experience that also garnered 7 New York Innovative Theatre Award nominations, including Outstanding Director.

Chicago Opera Theater opens their 2009 Spring Festival Season on April 18 with Mozart's La clemenza di Tito (through May 1) at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park.
Absent from Chicago stages in more than a generation, La clemenza di Tito has made a resurgence in the rest of the world. Most notably in New York City last year?both at the Metropolitan Opera and at the Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival. The New York Times declared, 'Clemenza emerges as a musically ravishing and dramatically complex opera of great immediacy.'
