Guitarist Jason Vieaux Performs 'Solo Bach' with The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center

Join the Richmond Symphony and Music Director Steven Smith for the second Altria Masterworks concert of the season on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 8pm and Sunday, Oct. 23 at 3pm at the Dominion Arts Center's Carpenter Theatre. The performance includes pieces by Dvo?ak and Libby Larsen and features award-winning pianist Anton Nel performing Schumann's Piano Concerto in A Minor.

The Richmond Symphony will begin the 2016-17 Season with a sold-out concert featuring legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman on Sun., Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. The Altria Masterworks concert is presented in partnership with the Carole and Marcus Weinstein Jewish Community Center (Weinstein JCC).

WILLY WONKA to Run 7/1-10 at MCCC's Kelsey Theatre

A world famous yet mysterious candy man is about to invite five lucky children into his magical chocolate factory, where delicious adventures await. The Yardley Players present 'Willy Wonka,' a musical based on the famed Roald Dahl book, at Mercer County Community College's (MCCC's) Kelsey Theatre Fridays, July 1 and 8 at 8 p.m.; Saturdays, July 2 and 9 at 8 p.m.; and Sundays, July 3 and 10 at 2 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on the college's West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. A reception with the cast and crew follows the opening night performance on July 1.

February 25, 2016 – Richmond, Virginia: the First Lady of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Dorothy McAuliffe; The Honorable Dwight C. Jones, Mayor, City of Richmond; The Honorable Charles R. Samuels, Councilman, Richmond City Council, Richmond North Central 2nd Voter District; Marilyn H. West, Chair of the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia; Dr. Levy M. Armwood, Jr. Pastor, Ebenezer Baptist Church; and Steven Smith, Music Director of the Richmond Symphony are pleased to announce a special festival celebrating the people, places and history of Richmond's historic Jackson Ward. Celebrate Jackson Ward: Past Present and Future will showcase the unique history of Jackson Ward through the stories and performances from individuals and organizations that continue to make a positive impact on the area. The Festival will feature three days of performances and activities on May 20-22, 2016. Anchored by a performance by the Richmond Symphony under its new “Big Tent” with Virginia Repertory Theatre, Richmond Jazz Society and Elegba Folklore Society, the festival will also give many professional, community and school groups a chance to perform on the Symphony's new state-of-the-art outdoor stage. The festival will also highlight ART 180's annual spring showcase, The Really BIG Show, as part of the weekend's festivities.

May 3, 2016 – Richmond Virginia The Richmond Symphony will close the 2015-16 Season with Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé on Saturday, May 14 at 8pm and Sunday, May 15 at 3pm. The music, composed for a three-part ballet, is based on the mythological Greek love story of Daphnis and Chloé and is considered some of the most beautiful and evocative of the twentieth century. Joining the Symphony will be the Richmond Symphony Chorus under the direction of Erin R. Freeman. The Altria Masterworks concerts will be led by Music Director Steven Smith and held at the Carpenter Theatre, Dominion Arts Center.

Richmond Symphony to End Metro Series with Mendelssohn, 5/8

April 19, 2016 – Richmond, Virginia Join the Richmond Symphony and Music Director Steven Smith on Sunday, May 8 at 3pm for the final concert of the 2015-16 Metro Collection Series, Mendelssohn: Scottish Symphony. The performance features pieces by Fauré, Ravel and Mendelssohn and will be held in the Blackwell Auditorium on the campus of Randolph-Macon College.

Seattle Men's Chorus & Seattle Women's Chorus Welcomes New Artistic Director

Flying House Productions (FHP) the parent organization for Seattle Men's Chorus and Seattle Women's Chorus, isthrilled to announce that Paul Caldwell will be named the new artistic director, effective August 1, 2016. The organization has flourished under the 35-year artistic leadership of Dennis Coleman, whose retirement was announced in February 2015. Immediately theFHP board of directors began an extensive nationwide search for Coleman's successor; work is currently underway with the Board of Directors, executive director Steven Smith, and Coleman for a smooth transition process. In the coming months Caldwell is expected to relocate from his Chicago-area home where he has worked as artistic director for the Youth Choral Theatre of Chicago, Windy City Gay Chorus, and Windy City Treble Quire.

Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra to Perform Concert, 2/28

February 23, 2016 – Richmond, Virginia The annual tradition continues when the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra (RSYO) shares the stage with the Richmond Symphony musicians on Sunday, February 28 at 4:00pm. Together they will play side by side, creating a 120 member orchestra! Hear selections from Sibelius, Dvo?ák, and Tchaikovsky in a concert featuring RSYO cellist, Jason Hwang. Hwang is the winner of the 2015 Richmond Symphony Orchestra League Concerto Competition. The performance will be held at the Carpenter Theatre Dominion Arts Center and led by Richmond Symphony Music Director Steven Smith.
