American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University announced today additional programming associated with its upcoming production of 1776 directed by Jeffrey L. Page and A.R.T. Terrie and Bradley Bloom Artistic Director Diane Paulus.

The A.R.T./Roundabout Theatre Company revival of 1776 begins at A.R.T. on Tuesday, May 17 and plays through Sunday, July 24. Following its premiere at A.R.T., 1776 will begin performances in September 2022 at Roundabout’s American Airlines Theatre in New York City before embarking on a 16-city national tour in February 2023.

The musical 1776 finds John Adams attempting to cajole and bully his fellow members of the Continental Congress to create and sign the Declaration of Independence and vote for a separation from English tyranny. But how much is he willing to compromise in the pursuit of this newfound freedom? 1776 The musical, with music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and a book by Peter Stone, premiered on Broadway in 1969 and won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical. In 1972, it was also made into a film adaptation.
This Tony award winning musical will feature the efforts of 30 talented actors from the greater Columbus area, including well known and long-standing member of the Columbus theatre community, Bill Goldsmith playing the part of John Adams.

The Gift Theatre Announces New Leadership; Plans For New Theatre Space In Jefferson Park

As The Gift Theatre embarks on its 20th anniversary, its Board of Directors today announced a change in artistic leadership and plans for a new performance space in Chicago's Jefferson Park neighborhood. Co-founder and Artistic Director Michael Patrick Thornton will step down from his post after helming the theatre for two decades.

Theater Resources Unlimited has announced that the second play in the TRU Voices Series, Golden Wings by Coolidge Harris II, will star Tony winner Lillias White and Scotch Ellis Loring on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at 3pm. The cast also includes Stanley Wayne Mathis, Jerome Preston Bates, Dan Saunders, Crystal Starr, Sherman Edwards and Aliria Johnson.
