Southern Rep Announces FREEDOM; Runs 7/11-28 at Contemporary Arts Center

Southern Rep Theatre concludes its 26th Season Lagniappe Series with the World Premiere of a J&S Production, LLC of FREEDOM by Sean Patterson, Joyce Pulitzer, David Seelig, & Kitty Greenberg. Directed by Mark Routhier. Starring Lorraine LeBlanc and John Neisler. FREEDOM runs July 11-28 and is performed at the Contemporary Arts Center.

Ricky Graham to Premiere New Musical at Loyola

Celebrated playwright and New Orleans native Ricky Graham will present the world premiere of his musical, "The Money Box," at Loyola University New Orleans in March. The production features music by Loyola alumnus Jefferson Turner '99 and lyrics by Graham and Sean Patterson.

Tonight, October 15, 2012, New York Theatre Barn will present NYTB in the D-Lounge, its monthly concert for emerging musical theatre writers (now in its 6th year), at the Daryl Roth Theatre. The October 2012 installment of NYTB in the D-Lounge features an excerpt from the new musical Academia Nuts called Speaking Geek: The Songs of Academia Nuts, as well as a selection of songs by Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson. The monthly series is executive produced by Laura Brandel and Jason Najjoum.

Is it possible to recreate someone else's authenticity seven times a week doing the same Off-Broadway show?  If last Saturday night's performance of Gob Squad's Kitchen (You've Never Had It So Good) is any indication, the answer is a resounding... I'm not sure.  But in any case, the lighthearted madness inhabiting The Public Theater's Newman space, devised by the German/British theatrical squad named in the title, makes for a rollicking good time.
