Breaking News: Mother-To-Be Chilina Kennedy Withdraws from Stratford Season

Chilina Kennedy has had to withdraw from the 2014 season for the happiest of reasons: she and her partner, Jacob James, are expecting a baby. She was to play Polly Baker in Crazy for You and Aldonza in Man of La Mancha, but she is now unable to undertake two such physically challenging roles. Ms Kennedy remains a valued member of the Festival family, and plans are underway to include her new concert as part of the 2014 Forum.
OPERA CONFERENCE 2013: OPERA OUT OF BOUNDS Runs 5/7-11

OPERA America, the national nonprofit service organization for opera, is pleased to announce details of Opera Conference 2013: Opera Out of Bounds, to be held in Vancouver, British Columbia from May 7-11. Co-hosted by Vancouver Opera, and in association with Opera.ca and Opera Volunteers International, this largest annual gathering of opera professionals in North America will convene at venues in the bustling downtown section of the city. This marks the second time that the conference is being held in Vancouver; the city previously hosted in 1999.

Falsettos is a Tony Award winning musical which explores complicated issues surrounding family and love amidst the backdrop of the emergence of the HIV/AIDS crisis in New York City. It is the latest offering in Acting Up Stage's exciting season, and opens tonight at Daniel's Spectrum (formerly the Regent Park Arts Centre).
BWW sat down and spoke with the three ladies of the production, Sara-Jeanne Hosie, Glynis Ranney and Sarah Gibbons about what the experience has been like so far, and about how relevant they feel the material is today:
100th Production Leads Pacific Opera's 2013-14 Season

Pacific Opera Victoria (POV) has announced a diverse season that includes main stage productions of Verdi's Falstaff, Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos, and Mozart's Marriage of Figaro. Additional productions in collaboration with the Early Music Society of the Islands and with the Victoria Symphony include La Descente d'Orphee aux Enfers and La Couronne de Fleurs by a master of early Baroque, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, and a special concert presentation of South Pacific by Rodgers and Hammerstein.
