The JCCSF welcomes the new year and the next decade with a collection of Arts & Ideas events for 2020, including the Bay area premier of a?oeLove Heals All Woundsa?? with Jon Boogz and Lil Buck, a special Mother's Day program with Alice Waters and Fanny Singer, and the return of Giants of Jazz on Film series with Mark Cantor.

The 62nd annual Monterey Jazz Festival wrapped up Sunday, September 29, with fans from across California and the country descending on the Monterey County Fairgrounds for a weekend which featured nearly 130 performances and events. The Festival was filled with many performances that stretched across a wide range of the jazz world and beyond, while maintaining a holistic approach and commitment to showcasing jazz legends and household name musicians alongside newer and emerging artists.

A six-time JazzTimes Readers Poll winner, the 62nd Monterey Jazz Festival, September 27-29, will feature another a?oejaw-dropping line-upa?? of nearly 130 performances from iconic and emerging jazz artists, educational events, conversations, films, and exhibits on eight stages. BWW Review: JAZZ at Marin Theatre Company is Nambi E. Kelley's ambitious adaptation of Toni Morrison's tribute to the musical genre and African-American culture.

From May 4 to October 27, 2019, the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival will present over 100 free music, theater, circus, dance, poetry, and children's programs with artists from the Bay Area and around the world.

California Shakespeare Theater announced today the cast of the return engagement of its record-breaking hit play black odyssey, playing September 25 through October 7, 2018 at the Bruns Amphitheater.

Another Planet Entertainment, Superfly and Starr Hill are thrilled to announce the 2018 Outside Lands comedy and improv line-up for the festival's renowned Barbary tent. Co-curated by SF Sketchfest, this year's lineup is headlined by three of the funniest women in the business: Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Game Night star Chelsea Peretti, 2 Dope Queens' Phoebe Robinson and the unstoppable Michelle Wolf.

Schimmel Center will present Tony and Pulitzer Prize nominee Anna Deavere Smith's Obie Award-winning solo performance, Notes From the Field, for one weekend only on Friday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Today, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in preparation for a two week run at the Royal Court in London. The production is directed by Leonard Foglia and features original music composed and performed by bassist Marcus Shelby who joins Ms. Smith on stage.

 A full production of Anna Deavere Smith's “Notes from the Field” opened in late 2016 at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Mass., and immediately transferred to off-Broadway, opening at Second Stage Theater in New York. In this unique one-woman show, Smith dramatized the accounts of students, parents, teachers and administrators affected by American's school-to-prison pipeline, which pushes underprivileged, minority youth out of the classroom and into incarceration.
