The St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards winners were announced Friday, May 26 at the Fabulous Fox Theatre.

The Ensemble Theatre brings Houston a new holiday tradition with A Motown Christmas. In it's 45th season, the Ensemble invites you to come and celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with this exciting, family-fun Christmas musical. Featuring holiday favorites such as 'Deck The Halls', 'This Christmas', and 'Mary, Did You Know', and Motown Classics such as 'My Girl' and 'Stop in the Name of Love' ,this musical is sure to get you in a Christmas spirit with a Motown flair.

A New Holiday is a Christmas musical that follows a 10 year-old girl on her holiday journey of hope, joy and love as she copes with the loss of her beloved grandmother. The production - written by soul singer Brian Owens and actress Sophia Stephens - features an all-black cast and was filmed in St. Louis, Missouri amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Arts and Education Council has awarded nine grants to local arts organizations who demonstrate diversity or seek to expand support of programs, leadership and access and that show promise for creative new directions in arts and cultural programming.

BroadwayWorld has learned today the complete cast, design and production team for Guys and Dolls, the first show of its second century, June 10 - 16.

The Arts and Education Council announced today that four members of the St. Louis community have been elected to the organization's board of directors. Curtis Cassel, Deanna Hohman, David Weiss and Keith Tyrone Williams were each elected to a three-year term beginning Jan. 1.

The Arts and Education Council (A&E) has opened nominations for the 28th annual St. Louis Arts Awards, the region's preeminent award ceremony honoring individuals, organizations and businesses that have made outstanding contributions to the area's vibrant arts community. The public is invited to submit nominations online through May 18, 2018. A community panel will review nominations and honorees for the 2019 St. Louis Arts Awards will be announced in June 2018.

Parents often ask me where they can find 'family-friendly' shows to see, and judging by the small audience in attendance at the Edison Theatre for the Black Rep's terrific production of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND (by the award-winning duo of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty), they're unaware of the wonderful works that are out there just aching to be discovered. This fairytale (hence the play in the title on the standard 'Once upon a time' opening you often find in those types of stories) is simply delightful, and filled with a slew of catchy Caribbean-influenced songs that make up the score. I think it's truly a crime that this under-appreciated presentation is coming to a close this weekend, and I challenge anyone reading this review to get out and see it. You will certainly not be disappointed, in fact, you'll probably fall in love with it in the same way that my son and I did.

While I'm well acquainted with L. Frank Baum's classic tales of the land of Oz, and I've certainly seen numerous stage adaptations of his work, I'd never had the opportunity to see THE WIZ, unless you count the film version (and I don't), until now. After viewing the Black Rep's splendid production I'm happy to report that it's a tune-filled spectacle that's brimming with color and movement. It has an Afrocentric, funky mid-1970's era vibe (book by William F. Brown, most of the music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls) that actually makes it seem more hip than you would expect.

The Black Rep presented Le Freak C'est Chic as part of their Sunday concert series this past weekend (April 1, 2012), and it's an interesting mix of dance, music, and incredible vocalizations that was thoroughly entertaining and as sexy as advertised. The show gave St. Louis an opportunity to see some of the finer singers, dancers, and musicians, that this town has to offer, and thankfully, they were greeted with a very warm reception. The production basically takes us on a tour through Cabaret to Funk, and then on to Rock Star, and gives everyone involved a chance to show off their various skills.

The Fifth Annual Kevin Kline Awards will take place on Monday, March 22, at 7pm, at the Loretto-Hilton Center on the campus of Webster University. 125 productions presented by 40 constituent theatres were judged in 2009, and awards will be given out in 22 categories.
