The Old Globe presents Marco Ramirez's ('Orange is the New Black,' 'Sons of Anarchy') wildly theatrical new play The Royale, directed by two-time Obie Award-winning and Drama Desk Award-nominated Rachel Chavkin. Founding Artistic Director of New York's the TEAM, Chavkin most recently won accolades for Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 (The New York Times, Time Out New York, and New York Post Critics's Picks, and Top Ten of 2012 and 2013). The Royale will run through November 2 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Opening night is tonight, October 9 at 8:00 p.m.

Catch 22 by Joseph Heller has been dubbed one of the greatest literary works of the 20th Century. The book was published in 1961 followed by a feature film in 1970 directed by Mike Nichols. The story is set in World War II and focuses on a group of US Army Air Force men - one in particular called Captain John Yossarian. The men do what they can in order to survive so they can go home to their families but their rank superiors keep throwing obstacles in their paths to try and keep them longer.

Joseph Heller's war time satire Catch-22 comes to Birmingham Repertory Theatre from May 20 -24. The novel, published in 1961, has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. It is often cited as one of the greatest novels of all time, ranking 11th in the 2003 BBC survey The Big Read.

Tomorrow is the third annualWorld Book Night U.S., a magical day/evening when some 25,000 people across the country will give 500,000 books to people in their communities who don't regularly read. Givers, who applied months ago, have chosen one title from the 35 that were selected for this year; they receive 20 copies of their chosen book from their participating bookstore or library. The books range from older classics like Catch-22 by Joseph Heller and After the Funeral by Agatha Christie to more recent popular titles such as Presumed Innocent by Scott Turow, Waiting to Exhale by Terry McMillan, Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin and Wild by Cheryl Strayed. A few of the titles are in large print and Spanish editions, and this year there's an e-book, too.

Satterthwaite and Heller served together in the 340th Bomb Group in Italy and Corsica, the group that would later inspire Heller's novel. Now Satterthwaite releases his own memoir of war, 'Truth Flies with Fiction' (published by Archway Publishing), a collection of journal entries, photographs and letters from Satterthwaite's time during the war and his subsequent traveling.

Guild Hall, the visual and performing arts center on eastern Long Island, recently honored the recipients of the 28th Academy of the Arts Lifetime Achievement Awards: John Alexander for Visual Arts; Walter Isaacson for Literary Arts; Nathan Lane for Performing Arts and Mickey Straus, who received the Special Award for Leadership and Philanthropy. Marshall Brickman was the Master of Ceremonies with special guest presenters: Ken Auletta, Alec Baldwin, Jack O'Brien and Lorne Michaels.
