Horse Head Announces Annual Staged Reading Conventions

Horse Head Theatre Co. (HH) is proud to continue our 9th Season with a free staged reading of ADVANCE MAN by Abe Koogler at Comedy Sportz (2201 Preston St., Houston 77003) on Monday October 8, 2018 at 8pm, directed by Rachael Logue. Featuring a cast of eleven actors; modern dancers from Frame Dance, choreographed by Lydia Hance; live original music and foley sound by Alli Villines (Horse Head's We're Gonna Die); and live lighting by J. Mitchell Cronin; Horse Head continues their 2018 experiment for what a staged reading could be.

Skyline Entertainment and Steel House Productions are proud to announce the day and date release of Tom Nagel's The ToyBox, starring Denise Richards ('The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills', Starship Troopers, The World is Not Enough) and Mischa Barton ('The O.C.', The Sixth Sense).  Reuniting the team behind 2016's ClownTown, Nagel's supernatural thriller follows an ill-fated family on a road trip intended to bring them back together, but the possessed RV they're traveling in may destroy them all.

As a continuation of their mid-season fundraising competition where staff and board members selected show ideas and raised funds to see them produced, Pirate Macbeth will be adapted for a one-evening only staged reading by competition winner, and Cohesion Advisory Board Member, Jeff Miller. Combining all the murder, mayhem, and mystical intrigue of Shakespeare's tale of ambition gone wrong, with all the swashbuckling, treasure hunting, and rum soaked high-seas adventure of classic pirate tales, Pirate Macbeth promises to be a journey you won't want to miss.

The West Wing's Melissa Fitzgerald, Broadway actor Heath Saunders, Emery Battis Award-winner Victoria Frings and Ken Clark, currently playing King Arthur in Camelot at STC, recently joined Members of Congress and notable Washingtonians onto the stage at Sidney Harman Hall to perform in Will on the Hill. Now in its sixteenth year, the much-loved bipartisan event took place on June 11 and raised $500,000 for the theatre's education and community outreach programs.

To top off its 38th season, Wild Swan Theater will present an original musical adaptation of L. Frank Baum's much loved fantasy, The Wizard of Oz. Join Dorothy as she travels the yellow brick road to the fabled Emerald City with her new friends the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Cowardly Lion. Talented playwright Jeff Duncan, known throughout the region for both his adult and children's plays, was more than up to the challenge of creating this special production just for Wild Swan. Brian E. Buckner has written whimsical and lively music to go with the 13 original songs created especially for this production.

Wild Swan Theater will present A Thousand Cranes as part of its 38th season of bringing high quality professional theater to young audiences in southeast Michigan.  Wild Swan is very proud to be bringing A Thousand Cranes back to the stage. This very beautiful and moving play tells the true story of a young Japanese girl's experience after the bombing of Hiroshima.  The play recounts Sadako's illness from radiation poisoning and how her friend Kenji teaches her to fold paper cranes as a way of getting well.  Sadako's story became a catalyst for children from all over Japan to begin to fold paper cranes in her memory.  Now there is a monument to Sadako at the Hiroshima Peace Park in Japan and people from all over the world bring garlands of cranes to it.

When We When Are Married is the first production of 2018 from Different Stages. Penned by J.B. Priestly, the original production opened in London in 1938 and the 1985 West End revival went on to win the Oliver Award for Best Play. It also holds the distinction of being the first play to be televised unedited when it was broadcast by the BBC in 1938. In addition to receiving film and TV adaptations over the years, the play has also been broadcast several times by radio across the U.K.
