Shaw Festival's OH WHAT A LOVELY WAR Explores Canadian Voices

Niagara-on-the-Lake's World War I connections - from residents who enlisted to the garrisoned troops being entertained in the Royal George Theatre - are highlighted in director Peter Hinton's re-improvised Oh What a Lovely War. With music direction by Paul Sportelli and movement direction by Alexis Milligan, this provocative production about the theatre of war begins previews at the Royal George Theatre on July 14.

Play with Opera I CALL MYSELF PRINCESS Comes to Aki Studio

A play with opera, Paper Canoe Projects and Cahoots Theatre partner with Native Earth Performing Arts for the world premiere production of I Call myself Princesswritten by Jani Lauzon. Including music by Charles Wakefield Cadman, and directed by Cahoots Artistic Director Marjorie Chan, this production will make its debut at Aki Studio, September 9-30, 2018.

This show is one that you will hold close to your heart. Children will love it. Adults will smile and appreciate the layers of meaning, but will also enjoy the sheer frivolity of it all. If I may say so, 'ewe' will love this Grand Challenge. It's a winner.

The Movement Theatre Company, a Harlem-based nonprofit committed to showcasing emerging artists of color, presents AND I WOULD STAND LIKE THIS…, a youth centered performance and post show panel led by sexual health educator Erika Hart targeting sexual health, family dynamics, and sexual identity. The panel will take place after the July 28th matinee performance of The Movement's current production And She Would Stand Like This by Harrison David Rivers, directed by David Mendizabal, and choreographed by Kia LaBeija at the A.R.T../New York Theatres in the Mezzanine Theatre.  Current partners for this event include The Door, A Center of Alternatives, and Safe Horizon's Streetwork Project.

On February 27, 2017, the Dramatists Guild of America, Inc. will hold its annual Awards Night at the French Institute / Alliance Francaise in New York City and among the other honors given that night, an award from the Dramatists Legal Defense Fund will be presented to producer Jeffrey Seller, director Thomas Kail, author Lin-Manuel Miranda, and the cast of Hamilton, for exercising their right to free speech by reading a statement directed at Governor and Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who was in attendance, at the November 18, 2016 performance.

The evening closes with a new story randomly drawn from Jennifer's kooky family album of Jasper Jewels. During the show a bucket is passed for an artist in the community who's hit a rough patch.
