Sundance Institute Announces 2019 Episodic Lab Fellows

Nine original independent pilots and their 14 creators, will benefit from holistic support and development at Sundance Institute's sixth annual Episodic Lab, taking place at Sundance Mountain Resort in Utah October 10-15, 2019. With topics that span genres --  from provocative reimaginings of the American dream to  visionary and epic supernatural dramas-- the scope of this year's projects, along with the diverse backgrounds of their creators, speaks to the Institute's broad and visionary support of the episodic format as the industry develops and grows; the Episodic Lab is the centerpiece of the Institute's year-round support program for emerging television writers.

The Films in Competition Announced For The 2019 American Black Film Festival

The 23rd Annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) is excited to announce their distinctive 2019 lineup of narrative features, documentaries and short films in competition. Films are set to screen in Miami from June 13-15 at the Regal Cinemas South Beach and the New World Center.

This year's Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) Masquerade Ball and After Party, an annual benefit gala in support of the 54-year-old arts organization, surpassed expectations once again by raising over a million dollars, for the second year in a row. The event was held at The Plaza Hotel in New York City, and was hosted by Fox 5's very own, Lori Stokes who shared the podium with co-host, 9-year-oldJayden Hairston, one of HSA's outstanding student ambassadors.

THE GREEN ROOM 42 - Broadway's newest intimate concert venue - will present ELEW on Thursday, August 16 at 7:00 PM. His performance "Rockjazz" fuses his classically trained piano skills with modern pop and rock music generating a new genre. After performing for Barack and Michelle Obama at The White House alongside Esperanza Spalding, on NBC-TV's "America's Got Talent" and on National Public Radio, ELEW brings "Rockjazz" back to New York at The Green Room 42 for a one night only performance.

James Cromwell, Bruce Dern, Naturi Naughton, Harry Lennix, Kat Graham, Join Cast of Mark Amin's EMPEROR

Sobini Films announced today that Oscar®-nominee James Cromwell, two-time Oscar®-nominee Bruce Dern and award-winning actress Naturi Naughton have joined Dayo Okeniyi in the cast in the Civil War-era EMPEROR, directed by Mark Amin, the veteran producer and former Vice Chairman of Lionsgate. Harry Lennix, Kat Graham, Ben Robson and Keean Johnson have also joined to round out the cast. Cromwell and Dern will play John Brown and Levi Coffin, respectively, two of the great heroes of the American abolitionist movement. Naughton plays the role of "Sarah Green," the wife of abolitionist and runaway slave Shields Green. The film is produced by Reginald Hudlin for Hudlin Entertainment and by Cami Winikoff and Amin for Sobini, with a script co-written by Amin and Pat Charles. Sobini's Tyler Boehm is executive producing. UTA is handling domestic sales. EMPEROR is currently in production in Savannah, Georgia.

This Spring Break I was fortunate enough to travel to a city very close to my heart but one that I had only encountered through television and movies and books, most notably, the second season of Glee. This past week I traveled to New York City for the first time for seven full days and my eyes lit up with the eternal lights around me and the feeling of the Big Apple was so overwhelming that all I could do, upon seeing the city from my plane and standing in the middle of Times Square for the first time, was shed a couple tears.
