North Carolina Opera has unveiled its 2024/25 season featuring its first Spanish-language production and more!

LA Opera President and CEO Christopher Koelsch has announced details for the company's 39th season. Music Director James Conlon will conduct three of the five mainstage productions, with other mainstage performances led by Resident Conductor Lina González-Granados and by guest conductor Domingo Hindoyan.

CRISPINO E LA COMARE (CRISPINO AND THE FAIRY GODMOTHER), a lively and lightweight 1850 comic piece that was was happily rescued from obscurity this week by Will Crutchfield's Teatro Nuovo.

Bay Area audiences are invited to revel in the high drama and opulent melodies of classic opera as artists from the 2023 Merola Opera Program perform extended scenes from works by Donizetti, Handel, Verdi, and others in the Schwabacher Summer Concert.

In Seattle Opera’s mainstage finale, audiences will be treated to one of opera’s most enduring favorites: La traviata, Giuseppe Verdi’s sumptuous tale of true love lost.

OPERA America has announced the first-round recipients of the 2023 Opera Grants for Women Stage Directors and Conductors. 

Throughout his life, Verdi had a passion for Shakespeare. Inspired by the great English poet, he passed down to the operatic repertoire three masterpieces: Macbeth, Otello and Falstaff, assimilating the text through his music to such an extent that he managed to transform the Shakespearean dramas into new compositions.

Giuseppe Verdi’s La forza del destino starts with a scene of Donna Leonora and Don Alvaro’s moonlight tryst which is suddenly interrupted by the girl’s father, Marchese di Calatrava. Alvaro draws a pistol, most probably one with a flintlock mechanism, because that was what used in the 18th century.

The Power of Destiny opens a series of operas that Giuseppe Verdi wrote for a foreign commission.

The season includes four mainstage productions at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, Carmen, La traviata, The Shining, and Sondheim on Sondheim in addition to live performances of the holiday classic, Amahl and the Night Visitors and the Kansas City premiere of Listen, Wilhelmina!, an imaginative children's opera at the Michael and Ginger Frost Production Arts Building. All Kauffman Center performances will be accompanied by the Kansas City Symphony.
