The 2015 Golden Gate International Children's and Youth Choral Festival Announced for July

More than 650 young vocal artists will convene in the East Bay for the tenth triennial Golden Gate International Children's and Youth Choral Festival July 13-18 presented by Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir, Artistic Director Robert Geary announced today. The young singers--who represent 21 choirs from eight countries on four continents—will come together to perform, compete and sing during a week of public concerts and workshops throughout the Bay Area culminating in the highly anticipated presentation of the 650 voice combined mega-chorus. The Festival opens with a Parade of Flags and Concert the evening of July 13 featuring all 21 choruses performing individually giving audiences a taste of the virtuosity and versatility to come during the week. The week features daily free public concerts and competitions, a special concert featuring the world-renowned Estonian Television Girls Choir, a new work, Pandora's Gift, by American composer Mark Winges and staged by choreographer Erika Chong Shuch, and culminates in a Grand Awards Concert featuring the winners of the competitions and all 21 choruses combined to perform collaborative repertoire learned during the Festival week. This year's Honorary Festival Chair is Vance George, Grammy and Emmy Award-winning former director of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. California Shakespeare Theater today announced its plans for 40thanniversary season, which includes a play that "changed American theater forever" according to the New York Times in its Broadway premiere; George Bernard Shaw's brilliant anti-romantic comedy, and two wildly inventive Shakespeare productions. The season will feature the return of directors Shana Cooper (Romeo and Juliet, Taming of the Shrew), Patricia McGregor (Spunk, A Winter's Tale), and Aaron Posner (A Midsummer Night's Dream), and choreographer Erika Chong Shuch (The Tempest).

Cal Shakes Announces AMERICAN NIGHT: THE BALLAD OF JUAN JOSE Cast

California Shakespeare Theater today announced the cast of its season-opening production, American Night: The Ballad of Juan Jose, by Richard Montoya and developed by Culture Clash and Jo Bonney. Helmed by Cal Shakes Artistic Director Jonathan Moscone, the production will run at the Bruns Amphitheater from May 29 through June 23. The 2010 world premiere of American Night: The Ballad of Juan Jose at Oregon Shakespeare Festival was the first show in the company's history to be extended due to popular demand; the New York Times deemed the play (In its recent Yale Rep production), "a lovable hodgepodge of references, historical and pop-cultural, with a deadly serious message at its heart."

The Folger Theatre continues its 2012/13 season with the Washington premiere of The Conference of the Birds, a theatrical adventure based on the poignant 12th-century Persian fable by Farid Uddi Attar about the search for the divine and the quest for truth. Beginning performances on October 23, the production is directed by two-time Helen Hayes Award-winner Aaron Posner (Cyrano, Macbeth at Folger) and will feature original music composed and performed by renowned musician and Helen Hayes Award-winner Tom Teasley.

Today, the renowned nonprofit announced 13 selections for the inaugural summer lab at The Ground Floor, Berkeley Rep's Center for the Creation and Development of New Work. During an intense four-week period, dozens of artists will live, dine, create, and collaborate at the Theatre's new campus in West Berkeley.
