The new, off-Broadway production of Rent began previews on, July 14, and opens Thursday, August 11 at New World Stages. The highly anticipated resurrection of the cult classic, written by Jonathan Larson, is being directed by Michael Greif, who directed the show's original off-Broadway and Broadway productions. The creative team includes choreographer Larry Keigwin, music supervisor Tim Weil, set designer Mark Wendland, costume designer Angela Wendt, lighting designer Kevin Adams, sound designer Brian Ronan, and projection designer by Peter Nigrini. The producers of Rent have announced the cast for the upcoming off-Broadway production that begins previews Thursday, July 14, and opens Thursday, August 11 at New World Stages, 340 West 50th Street, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues.

Last night, September 23, the stars of Memphis were honored with a Wall of Fame painting at Tony di Napoli's restaurant to kick off the new Broadway season and celebrate the cast's one year anniversary on Broadway. The painting was created by Dan May. Valerie Smaldone produced and emceed the event, which was hosted by Tony di Napoli's Bruce Dimpflmaier.

Last night, on June 13, the 2010 Tony Awards honored the best of Broadway in the 2009-2010 season. MEMPHIS was the big winner of the night in the musical category, earning honors for Best Musical, Best Book, Best Score, and Best Orchestrations. BroadwayWorld was on hand at the show's post-Tony celebration at the Empire Hotel.

The first of the May events BROADWAY BARES: ROOFTOP STRIPS will be held Sunday, May 9 at Hudson Terrace (621 West 46th Street between 10th and 11th Aves). On Sunday May 16, Splash (50 West 17th Street) will play host to the latest edition of BROADWAY BARES: SOLO STRIPS. Both shows will have two performances at 8 PM and 10 PM.

Yesterday, on April 28, The Shubert Organization and the Career Transition For Dancers hosted a 'Between the Shows' get together and dinner for for Broadway dance community at Sardi's in Times Square. In attendance was Nick Adams, Kelly Bishop, Caitlin Carter, Mercedes Ellington, Priscilla Lopez, Vivian Nixon, Keith Roberts, John Selya, Judine Somerville and many more of the talented dancers that grace the Broadway stages each night. BroadwayWorld was also on hand for the celebration honoring some of Broadway's best.

The American Theatre Wing Presented the 2010 Jonathan Larson® Grants on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the American Airlines Theatre in New York City. This year, Peter Lerman, Daniel Maté, and songwriting team Michael Kooman (music) and Christopher Dimond (book & lyrics) were selected to receive the prestigious grants, totaling $10,000. The evening included special performances of the recipients' work by Brian d'Arcy James and Kerry Butler. Brad Bass, John Eric Parker, and Ephraim Sykes from Memphis performed a rarely heard Jonathan Larson song. BroadwayWorld was there for the ceremony.

Two Boots Pizza in Hells Kitchen celebrated the SLICE OF BROADWAY honoring the Broadway cast of MEMPHIS with a specialty slice entitled 'Huey's Bad Boy' - Pulled pork, red onions, Dancing Pig BBQ sauce from Memphis, and topped with homemade cole slaw. Cast members from MEMPHIS, along with BroadwayWorld, were on hand to enjoy in the tasty dedication.

Cast of MEMPHIS Will Join The Actors' Chapel for Haiti Benefit Concert, 2/1

The Broadway cast of MEMPHIS will join The Actors' Chapel for a Haiti benefit concert entitled 'African Saints, African Stories: An Evening of Song and Spoken Word.' The concert will feature Dr. Camille Brown, Danny Coackley, and The Amen Choir, in addition to several MEMPHIS cast members. The concert is presented by St. Malachy's - The Actors' Chapel in conjunction with The Office of Black Ministry for the NY Archdioces and will take place at St. Malachy's on February 1st at 7:00pm.
