PICT Classic Theatre to Present EDUCATING RITA Next Month

Oakland will be bustling this September when the students return to their dormitories to begin a new year of study. During this time, from September 3 through 19, PICT Classic Theatre will present Educating Rita by Willy Russell, which was selected, in part, so that PICT can bid the University of Pittsburgh a fond farewell before leaving the Stephen Foster Memorial in 2016.

The latest show to grace the stage at the Walnut Street Theatre is No?l Coward's PRIVATE LIVES. Many have called this show Coward's finest and funniest romantic comedy. This comedy is about a divorced couple, Amanda and Elyot, who have remarried and are on their honeymoon with their new spouses in France. What is a surprise to them is that while they are on their honeymoon, they discover that they are staying in adjacent rooms at the same hotel. PRIVATE LIVES at the Walnut Street Theatre is full of sparkle and passion, and has a cast that will delight audience with their antics and liveliness.

Long-time PICT artistic director and founder, Andrew Paul and Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre founder and former director of theatre initiatives at the August Wilson Center, Mark Clayton Southers have announced Pittsburgh's newest professional theatre company, The Phoenix. The mission of The Phoenix is to explore the issues facing our diverse and rapidly changing world through the language of theatre. The name is purposeful. The phoenix was a mythological creature that crossed borders finding a home in many cultures from ancient Greece and Egypt to Turkey, Persia, Russia, Tibet, China and Japan. It was and is a symbol of renewal, new life emerging from the ashes of the old in a never-ending cycle of death and rebirth.
