Victoria Theatre Association announces the 2019 Cool Films line-up including themed marathon weekends and the return of live organ concerts on the Mighty Wurlitzer. New to the Cool Films Series are hosted screenings of Napoleon Dynamite with Jon Heder, Efren Ramirez, and Jon Gries, The Princess Bride with Corey Elwes as well as two movie events with radio and podcast Filmically Perfect hosts J. Todd Anderson and George Willeman. A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE Heats Up Odyssey Theatre

The team behind 2016's acclaimed production of Tennessee Williams' rarely-seen Kingdom of Earth, is back - this time, with Williams' Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece, A Streetcar Named Desire. Jack Heller directs Susan Priver (down-on-her-luck showgirl Myrtle in Kingdom of Earth, LA Weekly award-winning The Lover by Harold Pinter) as Blanche DuBois and Max E. Williams (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., numerous productions with Elephant Theatre Company) as Stanley Kowalski in a visiting production at the Odyssey Theatre presented by Dance On Productions in association with Linda Toliver and Gary Guidinger. Passions flare and cultures collide in the sultry streets of New Orleans beginning May 25, with performances continuing though July 7.

The tour continues with a limited run at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts' Lovelace Studio Theater (9390 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA 90210) from Friday, April 5 through Sunday, April 14.
Theater for the New City Presents SIGN IN THE SIX O'CLOCK SKY

The Xoregos Performing Company is presenting a new play at Theater for the New City by Arnold Schulman, a playwright and screenwriter who has been nominated for two Academy Awards and written for Broadway. Schulman's Sign in the Six O'Clock Sky debuts at Theater for the New City March 14 and runs through March 31. Shela Xoregos directs the production. Tickets are $18 and $15 for seniors and students.

Rogue Machine, known for its mission to present original and provocative programming, is now presenting the West Coast premiere production of FINKS, a New York Times Critic's Pick which was nominated for a Drama Desk Award. The play brings together writer Joe Gilford and director Michael Pressman, friends since childhood and both children of Blacklisted artists. In it, Gilford documents the struggle his parents, entertainers Jack Gilford and Madeline Lee Gilford, endured when they were called to testify, with actual testimony or published statements by those who appeared before the House Un-American Activities Committee used in the play.
James Greene, Veteran Broadway Actor Dies At 91

James Greene, a character actor with an illustrious stage career, but perhaps best known for his four-year stint on TV's 'The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd' with writer and director Jay Tarses, died on November 9, 2018, at his home in Los Angeles. He was 91.

The National Philharmonic begins its 2018-2019 season at The Music Center at Strathmore on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m., with a Washington D.C. premier of Marlon Brando's On the Waterfront celebrating iconic American composer Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday. The orchestra will perform Bernstein's score from the 1954 Oscar award-winning film, On the Waterfront, which ranks eighth on the American Film Institute's Top 100 list. The orchestra will be conducted by Philharmonic Music Director and Conductor Piotr Gajewski who was mentored by Bernstein. The concert will begin with a performance of the Star-Spangled Banner, conducted by Eliot Pfanstiehl, former CEO and founder of the Strathmore Hall Foundation Inc. The eight-time Oscar-winning re-mastered film, directed by Elia Kazan, stars Marlon Brando, Karl Malden, Lee J. Cobb, and Eva Marie Saint, and will be shown in high-definition with the original dialogue intact. Ticket prices are $35-$85 and are free for young people age 7-17.
