Chorus Pro Musica presents the Gershwins' Pulitzer Prize-Winning Musical OF THEE I SING

Chorus pro Musica, directed by Jamie Kirsch, will present a semi-staged concert version of George and Ira Gershwin's Pulitzer Prize-winning musical "Of Thee I Sing" on May 13 at 8 p.m. at Robbins Memorial Town Hall Auditorium in Arlington, Massachusetts.

Boston Lyric Opera's Stanford Calderwood General & Artistic Director Esther Nelson announced today an eclectic 2017/18 Season designed to please die-hard opera fans as well as newcomers to the art form.  Each of the Company's productions will be presented on a different area stage, starting October 13-22, 2017 with a new production of Giacomo Puccini's Tosca featuring the American debut of award-winning rising global star Elena Stikhina in the title role. The World Premiere of The Nefarious, Immoral but Highly Profitable Enterprise of Mr. Burke & Mr. Hare (a.k.a. Burke & Hare) by composer Julian Grant and librettist Mark Campbell follows November 8-12, 2017.  From March 16-25, 2018, BLO presents Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht's pivotal early-20th century work The Threepenny Opera.  BLO closes its Season in May with Leonard Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti, paired with his Arias and Barcarolles, to mark the Lawrence, Mass.-born composer's centennial.

Oratorio Society of New York Announces Winners of 2016 Competition

The Polish countertenor Jakub Jozef Orli?ski is the First Place winner of the Oratorio Society of New York (OSNY)'s 2016 Lyndon Woodside Oratorio-Solo Competition. The award was presented following a performance by eight finalists in Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall on Saturday, April 9. Mr. Orlinski is the first countertenor to win the Oratorio-Solo Competition, the only competition to focus exclusively on oratorio singing and now in its 39th year. Boston, MA – February 16, 2016 – Boston Lyric Opera (BLO) unleashes Jules Massenet's melodic, romantic French opera Werther from its late 18th Century German source material, bringing it to an early-20th-Century arrondissement outside Paris as part of BLO's French-inspired season. B. Schlather and running November 11-15, 2015.  The one-act, three-character chamber opera (which Glass dubbed a “pocket opera” for its small cast and musical ensemble, and its 90-minute running time), is based on the 1914 Franz Kafka short story: a pitch-black fable about crime and a very unusual punishment.

Boston Lyric Opera today announced the location for its Opera Annex production of Philip Glass' In The Penal Colony.  The one-act, two-character chamber opera based on a 1914 Franz Kafka short story will be staged in The Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts from November 11-15, 2015.  Tickets for In the Penal Colony and all of BLO's 2015/16 Season shows go on sale to the public Friday, July 31.
