BWW Review: Keala Settle Lets Her Astonishing Singing Speak For Itself in Solo Debut with Frank Wildhorn at Birdland
by Casey Mink - Aug 29, 2016

Keala Settle has made a name for herself in the Broadway landscape due diligently portraying supporting roles, be it the bigoted Shirley in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Norma in 2013's Hands on a Hardbody (a show-stopping performance for which she earned a Tony nomination), or the affectionate but no-nonsense best friend in Waitress, her current gig. However, in her solo concert debut at Birdland on August 22, singing the music of Frank Wildhorn, who also accompanied her performance, Settle valiantly demonstrated she is no mere sidekick.

BWW Review: Marcus Goldhaber's Monthly Residency at Bar Thalia Is a Lovely Way to Spend Time On a Sunday Night
by Alix Cohen - Mar 7, 2016

Bar Thalia, a narrow, uber-casual bar/café adjacent to the Upper West Side arts hub Symphony Space, has become the musical pied-à-terre of vocalist Marcus Goldhaber. Each first Sunday of the month, the artist presents two loosey-goosey acoustic sets with a guest singer and guitarist. The past Sunday's show featured vocalist Tessa Souter with Tony Romano on guitar.

BWW Review: THE BEST BROTHERS is Another Smart, Funny, Bittersweet, and Well-Acted Gem by Loudmouth Collective
by Jill Schafer - Jan 18, 2016

?Consider this my annual plug for Loudmouth Collective, one of my favorite new theater companies, if you can still call them 'new' after four seasons of smart, intense, funny, beautifully executed theater. They only do two shows a year, and typically only run for two weekends, so you need to be quick to catch them. And trust me, you will be rewarded. I've been with them since the beginning and they never disappoint. Firstly, their choice of plays is interesting and excellent, small-cast (often one or two actors), smartly written, bitingly funny or darkly absurd or heart-breakingly beautiful or some combination thereof. Secondly, the production always brings out the best in the play thanks to the great artists involved. Daniel MacIvor's two-person drama about brothers coming together after the death of their mother seems tailor made for Loudmouth. It would behoove you to get your tickets now to see this funny, bittersweet, and well-acted gem before it's gone!

Jazz Singer Stacey Kent Releases New Album 'Tenderly'

Photo Coverage: Inside Steve Tyrell's Opening Night at Cafe Carlyle
by Stephen Sorokoff - Dec 2, 2015

Last night Cafe Carlyle welcomed back GRAMMY Award-winner Steve Tyrell for a four-week engagement and BroadwayWorld was there for opening night. The renowned singer returns with a new show, One More For The Road, featuring a full set of Sinatra favorites in celebration of Ol' Blue Eyes' 100th birthday. It's a fitting tribute since it was actually a Sinatra song, 'The Way You Look Tonight,' that Tyrell sang in the 1991 movie, Father of the Bride, which launched his career as a singer. Years later, the Sinatra family handpicked Tyrell to perform 'Fly Me To The Moon' at the Hollywood Bowl, with Quincy Jones conducting the orchestra, when the Chairman was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2005. Tyrell's ties to the Sinatra family remain tight as he was once again asked to host a three-hour celebration on Siriusly Sinatra on Frank's actual birthday, December 12. He will be live from Patsy's for Sirius XM radio, just as he did in 2014.
