stufffOn this day in 2015, Academy Award winner Helen Mirren returned to Broadway with a stunning portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in Peter Morgan's The Audience, directed by two-time Tony Award winner Stephen Daldry. The production nabbed two Tony Awards, one for Mirren in the Leading Actress in a Play category and the other for Featured Actor in a Play, taken home by Richard McCabe for his portrayal of Harold Wilson.
UK-India Year of Culture Officially Launches

The British Museum Announces the South Asia Season

The British Museum is launching a celebratory season to mark the 70th anniversary of Indian independence. This will coincide with the India-UK Year of Culture announced in November 2015 by David Cameron and Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India. The British Museum will bring together different strands of activity from spotlight tours at our UK partner venues to events in London and expand the original celebration to include all the cultures of South Asia.

Fans of The Crown on Netflix will love The Audience. In fact, they share the same writer (Peter Morgan wrote the Netflix series and is the playwright) though the projects are separated by a few years of development. In fact, some of the dialogue from the Netflix show is clearly lifted from the play.

Doctor Faustus is arguably Christopher Marlowe's best-loved and most well known play. What would we give to get whatever we wanted? In Marlowe's production, Faustus literally sells his soul to the devil in order to gain knowledge. However Jamie Lloyd's adaptation gives it a more modern twist.
