Houston Grand Opera has announced the winners for this year's Concert of Arias, the 34th Annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers, held last evening at the Wortham Theater Center and livestreamed for audiences at home on HGO Digital and HGO's Facebook and YouTube channels.

After a pandemic-induced postponement of one year, one of the opera world's oldest and most prestigious competitions is back on and will mark a milestone in 2022: the George London Foundation Competition will hold its 50th anniversary event in February.

Soprano Sonya Yoncheva performed a live concert on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from the Schussenried Cloister in southwest Germany as part of the Met Stars Live in Concert series.

Opera fans across Australia will soon be able to enjoy performances from the Metropolitan Opera, with six new productions set to premiere in Australian cinemas nationally beginning on October 30.

Nobody goes to see the Met’s TURANDOT for subtlety and, from that standpoint, the audience got what it paid for at the opera’s first performance of the season. The Glimmerglass Festival, the summer opera and musical theater festival, will return to its theater for its 2022 season after presenting this past summer’s performances completely outdoors in the aptly named festival, “Glimmerglass on the Grass.”

Falletta will share the podium with conductors Steven Reineke and Thomas Wilkins.

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) is now offering single tickets to the 2021–22 season at HGO.org. After an all-virtual 2020–21 season through HGO Digital, the company will launch its triumphant return to live performance at The Wortham Theater Center on October 22, 2021.

Schmidt Vocal Arts has announced the first national prize in the history of the Schmidt Vocal Competition, in celebration of its 25th anniversary season. This annual event for U.S. high school students, funded by the William E. Schmidt Foundation, sees 400+ singers compete each year – this season for more than $625K in cash awards and scholarships.
