Hip to Hip Theatre Company, under the Artistic Direction of Jason Marr is in their final week of performances. Five remaining shows are scheduled for Manhattan, Queens, and Southampton. Now in its eleventh season, Hip to Hip will end their 2017 tour with a performance of Henry IV on Saturday, August 19th at 7:30 pm in Southampton.

Cardboard Citizens are marking their 25th anniversary as a company this year and have a rich history of making ground-breaking and thought provoking theatre. I first worked with them two years ago on another Forum Theatre play, A Matter of Mind, about the effect of the teenage brain on behaviour and how it changes over the course of adolescence. The impact the production had on the teenagers was palpable and I was struck by how the work Cardboard Citizens creates doesn't just transform audience opinion - it changes the actors' lives.

Following their one-off theatrical re-staging of Ken Loach's seminal work Cathy Come Home at the Barbican in July of this year, the award-winning theatre company Cardboard Citizens has announced a brand new touring production for October, Cathy, based around similar themes. This year marks the marks the both 50th anniversary of Loach's film and the 25th anniversary of the theatre company who work making theatre with and for homeless people.

Excited high school students, educators and supportive friends and family members packed McCaw Hall to celebrate The 14th Annual 5th Avenue Awards Honoring High School Musical Theater. The highly anticipated event, directed by Kat Ramsburg, handed out awards in 21 categories ranging from Outstanding Overall Musical Production to Outstanding Lobby Display. The crowd eagerly cheered for Washington's finest teenage performers as awards were accepted, local celebrity presenters spoke and nominated students performed musical excerpts from their acclaimed shows. This Tony Awards style program hosted by The 5th Avenue Theatre is proudly sponsored by Wells Fargo with additional support from Alaska Airlines and The Boeing Company.

Backbeard: A New Musical found its first audiences this past Wednesday, and we were tremendously busy leading up the first performance. Regardless of what time of day it was, a plethora of artists were working around the clock to see the visions of Backbeard's creators through to opening day. The final week before opening was an integral period of growth for artists, creators, designers, and technical staff. After weeks (or in Backbeard's case, years) of immersion in the text and the projected visions of artists, the final stretch presented the actualization of the piece, and the monstrous effort of a family of artists was realized.
