MUSICAL- COMEDY SISTER DUO RETURNS TO THE DUPLEX IN
VICKIE & NICKIE'S HOLIDAY SLEIGH RIDE!
New York, N.Y./November 8, 2018: The well-known, hilarious musical-comedy sister duo, Vickie & Nickie, are returning to The Duplex in NYC with their seasonal show, Vickie & Nickie’s Holiday Sleigh Ride for two performances on Saturday, December 8th at 4pm and Wednesday, December 12th at 6:30pm. During this celebration of the holiday season “Minnesota-style,” the multi-instrumental, singing housewife sisters will entertain with side-splitting interpretations of your favorite holiday tunes and pop songs, wacky originals, fun family stories, improv and audience participation. Created, written and performed by real life sisters Lisa and Lori Brigantino, the fast talking Midwestern moms come to you straight from their prison circuit tour to celebrate the season all while accompanying themselves on many different instruments including acoustic and electric guitars, keyboard, accordion, saxophone, ukuleles, percussion and more.
The Brigantino sisters have performed a number of Vickie and Nickie shows to date to rave reviews: Jenna Esposito of Broadwayworld.com says, "The talented Brigantino sisters put on a show unlike any other - their characters are complete, well-rounded, and immensely entertaining, and their musical talent is undeniable!" Downtown Express says “The kitschy duo are not only funny character comediennes, but very talented musicians, each of them switching off on numerous different instruments over the course of a set.” And Jon Sobel of Blogcritics.com concludes, “Straight from “the prison circuit” and the land of lutefisk – Garrison Keillor fans will know what that is – the pair poke good-natured fun at middle-of-the-road American culture while revving up the crowd with perfectly executed vocal harmonies and musicianship (keyboards, guitar, ukulele, sax…).”… Vickie and Nickie, [are] two busy Midwestern moms who take to the stage to delight and entertain with humorous banter (abundant), multi-instrumental musical talents (considerable), and big ol’ personalities (wickedly twisted, if all in good family-friendly fun).”
Lisa and Lori Brigantino have been performing together musically since they were children. Lori (Vickie) is an actor, singer and multi-instrumentalist with a major in theatre and a minor in music from SUNY Fredonia and is a graduate of The William Esper Studio two year Meisner Actor Training Program. She has also studied acting with Suzanne Shepherd. Her credits include The Last Nickel at The NYC International Fringe Festival, Trials & Fibs Off Broadway at The Soho Playhouse and several Off-Off Broadway plays and independent films. Lisa (Nickie) is an award-winning singer/songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist with a Master of Music degree in music composition & music theory from SUNY Fredonia. She writes for film, TV, theater, dance and more. Lisa just released her third solo album “I’ll Waltz Before I Go” in October, which Lori also sings and plays on. Lisa was an original member of the all girl Led Zeppelin tribute band, Lez Zeppelin (bass, keyboards, mandolin), and toured internationally with the band, playing A list venues and festivals around the world. Lisa left Lez Zeppelin in 2009 to focus on her own original music. Together, the sisters also regularly perform Lisa’s original songs at regional clubs, coffeehouses, house concerts and festivals.
The Brigantino sisters were last seen as Vickie & Nickie in 2017 at The Duplex performing their holiday show, which they’ve previously performed to sold out houses at The Duplex, Don’t Tell Mama and other NYC venues. The creative sister duo have written and performed ten full length Vickie & Nickie shows to date including: ‘Tis the Season with Vickie & Nickie, Vickie & Nickie’s Jingle Bell Jambouree, which premiered at The Cutting Room, NYC, Inside Vickie & Nickie and the premiere of Vickie & Nickie’s Holiday Sleigh Ride on the main stage at Dixon Place, NYC, Vickie & Nickie’s Sizzlin’ Summer Spectacular and The Best of Vickie & Nickie at the Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta, NY, and The Vickie & Nickie Dream Tour which had very successful runs in NYC at Upstairs at Rose’s Turn and The Duplex. In addition, Vickie and Nickie have made appearances in many variety and comedy shows in NYC including: Sundays at Seven Comedy Night at the Irish Arts Center, Kim David Smith’s Vauxhall Kabarett at Vlada, Danny Leary’s Variety Extravaganza at Comix, The Talent Show Brand Variety Show at The Gershwin Hotel, Listen To This at The 92nd St. Y/Tribeca, Becky Donohue and Danny Leary’s The Cocktail Show at Don’t Tell Mama, and The Rocha Dance Theatre’s Glamour Bash at Galapagos in DUMBO. Currently, the Brigantino sisters are in production for their first season of web shorts called “Vickie & Nickie Flickies.” The first two episodes can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/vickieandnickie with more episodes to be released in the new year.
The Duplex presents Vickie & Nickie’s Holiday Sleigh Ride created, written and performed by Lisa Brigantino and Lori Brigantino, co-directed with Timothy P. Walsh. Show times are Saturday December 8th at 4:00pm sharp (3:30pm doors) and Wednesday, December 12th at 6:30pm sharp (6:00pm doors). The Duplex is located at 61 Christopher St, New York, NY 10014.
