Jordy, a struggling playwright, makes a deal with the Devil, her soul in exchange for the Devil’s help in writing a single original play. Along their journey through different settings they meet a colorful cast of characters, all played by the same two actors (The Players), as well as the bored barkeeper Joanne, whom Jordy instantly falls in love with. After being led to doubt if Joanne is a character or a real person, Jordy decides to break both of them out of the play, taking the show completely off the rails.
The play is based on Goethe’s Faust 1 and has been compared to plays like Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and Aaron Posner’s Stupid f*cking Bird. It deals with themes such as: an artist’s life and process, the value of a story, and love in all it’s forms. It features dry asides, metatextual witticisms and at times even genuine emotion.
