WILLY WONKA JR. - The Other House at LA Arts Collective

The Other House at LA Arts Collective is proud to announce the WINTER MUSICAL: Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR. AUDITIONS FOR AGES 4-17: Saturday, September 24th and Sunday, September 25 starting at 2:00 p.m. at Los Angeles Arts Collective, 8939 S. Sepulveda Blvd. #105, Westchester, CA 90045,
310-641-2575.

The Other House at LA Arts Collective is proud to announce the WINTER MUSICAL: Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder in addition to a host of fun new songs, Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone's sweet tooth. Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory – or suffer the consequences.

THE OTHER HOUSE teaches children theatre skills throughout the year. For our annual production, part of that education is auditioning, which is arguably one of the most important skills! $600 covers over two months of at least 5 hours of instruction per week. We have acting and voice instructors who train our students to effectively perform with joy and professionalism.

Here are some audition tips:

1. We'll have an accompanist, so be sure to bring your sheet music with you.

2. Bring lots of energy and an attitude of play! Auditions are tons of fun!

3. Bring your calendars with you. We can work around most conflicts.

When you arrive, please sign in; we'll have a sign in sheet at the front desk. We'll be calling you in so we can get acquainted and hear you read and sing. We prefer parents and guardians to wait in the lobby while actors and actresses audition, but of course, it's up to you.

PERFORMANCES: Pending final approval, performances will be at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on three consecutive Saturdays: December 3, 10, and 17.

COST: $600 covers twelve weeks of acting and singing lessons including six performances. Classes will be scheduled at least four days per week, but students will not be called for every class. Full payment is due at first rehearsal; installment plan is also available.

Character Breakdown

Willy Wonka / Candy Man - Enigmatic character; at once mysterious and mischievous but also charismatic. The actor should be able to be funny and serious and change between the two on a dime. Will cast male or female.

Charlie Bucket - Emotional heart and soul of the musical. Will cast male or female.

Grandpa Joe - The grandfather we all wish we had when we were Charlie's age. He is caring, patient, sweet and always reminds Charlie to remain cheerful. The role sings a bit, but the singing is secondary.

Mr. Bucket - A natural nurturer.

Mrs. Bucket - A nice voice, a natural nurturer.

Phineous Trout - The reporter who announces the winners of the Golden Ticket contest throughout the show. The role requires some singing. Will cast male or female.

Oompa-Loompa Chorus - Helpful ensemble must work well as a group.

Augustus Gloop - Overachiever, blustery character who represents the evils of eating too much.

Mrs. Gloop - Mrs. Gloop overindulges her son with food.

Mike Teavee - Mike is not just a TV junky. He is also addicted to video games, the Internet and any other mindnumbing technological device. Mike is bratty, loud and obnoxious.

Ms. Teavee - Ms. Teavee is a take on all television moms of the distant past. Think June Cleaver (Leave it to Beaver) or Marion Cunningham (Happy Days) or even Carol Brady (The Brady Bunch). She's perfectly put together and a bit vacant.

Violet Beauregarde - Gum chewer extraordinaire, Violet hails from Snellville, Georgia, so it's nice if she has a Southern American accent.

Mrs. Beauregarde - Mrs. Beauregard is a teacher and has invested a great deal of hard-earned money on therapy for her orally fixated daughter, with less than stellar results. The role is virtually non-singing. Her accent should match Violet's.

Veruca Salt - Veruca is the wealthy, class-conscious, spoiled brat. She is often portrayed with a high British accent that is by no means required (brats come in all nationalities).

Mr. Salt - Mr. Salt's solution to most problems is to buy his way out. He is upper class, and usually portrayed with a high British accent. (But this accent is not necessary). He sings very little.

Grandma Josephina - Charlie's three grandparents are mainly non-singing character roles. Need an excellent actor for this role.

Grandma Georgina - Charlie's three grandparents are mainly non-singing character roles. Need an excellent actor for this role.

Grandpa George - Charlie's three grandparents are mainly non-singing character roles. Need an excellent actor for this role.

James - James is Charlie's friend from school. He has a few lines and sings the introduction of The Candy Man along with Matilda and Charlie.

Matilda - Matilda is also a schoolmate of Charlie's, but she's a bit of bully. Matilda has a few lines and sings the introduction of The Candy Man along with James and Charlie.

The Candy Man Kids - Sophie, Danny, Alfie, Billie and additional kids as needed are the Candy Man Kids. These kids sing The Candy Man.

Chorus Of Cooks - The Cooks appear during I Eat More! presenting Augustus with a smorgasbord of food choices.

Squirrels - The squirrels are non-speaking, non-singing roles. This is a great part for beginning actors!
