TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD - Roxy Regional Theatre
Local youth will have the opportunity to work alongside professional actors when the Roxy Regional Theatre holds children's auditions for the roles of Scout, Jem and Dill in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD on Friday, February 15, at 5:00pm.
Interested auditionees should email
roxy@roxyregionaltheatre.org to be added to the audition list. Children should come prepared with the Scout/Jem/Dill scene from the play, available at
www.roxyregionaltheatre.org/auditions. To avoid distractions, parents will be asked to wait in the lobby during the auditions.
Character descriptions are as follows:
  • Scout is described as a young girl about to experience the events that will shape the rest of her life. She should, ideally, seem as young as nine. Scout is courageous and forthright. If a question occurs to her, she'll ask it. Age is approximately 10 to 14.
  • Jem is a few years older than his sister Scout and, like his sister -- perhaps even more than his sister -- he's reaching out to understand their unusual and thus not conventionally-admirable father. Probably the strongest undercurrent in Jem is his desire to communicate with his father. Age is approximately 10 to 14.
  • Dill is small and wise beyond his years. He is about the same age as Jem. Dill is neater and better dressed that his friends. There's an undercurrent of sophistication to him, but his laugh is sudden and happy. Obviously there is a lack in Dill's own home life, and he senses something in Atticus that's missing from his own family relationship. Age is approximately 10 to 13.
Performances of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD run March 8 through March 23. If cast, child must be available for rehearsals Monday, February 25, through Friday, March 8, per the rehearsal schedule. Some flexibility will be allowed for daytime rehearsals. Child must also be available for possible daytime performances for school groups at 10:00am on Mondays through Fridays during the run of the production.
A tentative rehearsal and performance schedule (with already booked daytime performances), along with a copy of the scene needed for the audition, can be found online at
www.roxyregionaltheatre.org/auditions.
