The Last Ship
Music and Lyrics by Sting
Book by John Logan and Brian Yorkey
Pioneer Theatre Company will produce The Last Ship, the new musical with music and lyrics by the pop superstar Sting. The book is by the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning writers John Logan and Brian Yorkey. PTC's production will be the Regional Premiere since the show's Broadway run in 2014-2015.
Auditions for Pioneer Theatre Company's 2016-2017 season opening musical will be held on Thursday, May 12th, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Callbacks will be held Friday, May 13th, 2016 by invitation only.
Auditions will be held in Room 245 at Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre. Each audition slot is three minutes, singing only. Please prepare contemporary musical theatre piece or a song by STING that is appropriate for the show. Accompanist will be provided, but auditioners should bring their own sheet music and/or scores (neither will be provided by the theatre). A headshot and resume are recommended.
AEA auditions between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. AEA and Non-AEA auditions between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Call backs will be held on Friday, May 13th, 2016, by invitation only. Callback times will be provided to auditioners who are invited back.
Auditioners must be 15 years or older. Note: Auditioners for Young Gideon/Tom and Young Meg will be seen on this day - no separate children's audition are planned for The Last Ship. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for this audition, or at the callback.
All auditioners must come in to sign up on the callboard in Room 325 at the Roy W. and Elizabeth E. Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre. The sign-up sheet will be posted on May 5, 2016.
Rehearsal dates for the production are August 22 - September 16, 2016; performance dates are September 16 through October 1, 2016. PTC Artistic Director Karen Azenberg will direct and choreograph the production, musical director is Helen Gregory.

Cast Break Down
The Last Ship
The Last Ship is set in Wallsend in Northern England and all characters (except Father O'Brien) speak Geordie dialect. All roles must be strong singers. Dialect is not required for this audition.
Gideon Fletcher - Age 30. He is the son of a ship builder who dreams of doing more with his life. At 15 he leaves home to travel the world. He only returns home after his father dies. Gideon is brooding and angry, but has a good heart. Must be played by a strong actor and singer. Tenor A2-G4
Jackie White - Age 40 to 55. Foreman at the shipyard. A strong and proud man, born and raised in Wallsend he knows nothing but his life at the shipyard and is struggling with the potential loss of that world. Must be an extremely good singer, strong stage presence and strong character actor. Baritone B2-E4
Father O'Brien - Age 60 to 70. The benevolent parish priest in Wallsend, originally from Ireland. He is the soul of the town and understands its inhabitants including Gideon, the prodigal son. Should be a strong actor and good singer. High Baritone G3-Eb4 (needs an F4 but not really sustained).
Meg Dawson - Age 30. Gideon's childhood girlfriend, she is the mother of his son. She works in the local pub and is currently engaged to Arthur Millburn. Meg is a beauty who was deeply hurt by Gideon's departure but has moved on with her life. She must now reconcile what Gideon's return means to her and her son. Alto G#3-C5
Peggy White - Age 40 to 50. Jackie's wife, just as strong and proud as her husband she will defend him and the men of Wallsend until the day she dies. Alto G3-B4
Arthur Millburn - Age 30's. A former welder who has traded in his coveralls for a nice suit and a job with the company that has bought the shipyard. He plans to turn it into a salvage company. The others in the town do not embrace his decision. He loves Meg and wants to marry her. strong singer and actor. Baritone C#3-D#4.
Young Gideon/Tom Dawson - Age 15. Actor can be 16-21, must be able to play a teenager. Plays Gideon at age 15 and Tom Dawson, Meg and Gideon's son also age 15. Tom is warm and appealing, angry wanting validation from the father he has never met. Tenor D#3-G#4.
Young Meg - Age 15. Also plays in the ensemble. Young and sweet, should move well. C4-B4 (C5 but not held)
Ensemble - Residents of Wallsend. All types and ages, must be strong singers and actors- able to sing close harmonies.
