The House of Blue Leaves focuses on Artie Shaugnessy, a zookeeper by day, a songwriter with visions of glory by night. He plies his wares at piano bars in 1965 Queens where he lives with his wife, Bananas, and his downstairs mistress, Bunny. On the day the Pope makes his first visit to New York, Artie's son Ronnie goes AWOL from the army with nefarious intentions. At the same time Artie's old school chum Billy, now a successful Hollywood producer, arrives on the scene. Artie believes Billy holds the key to his desires of getting out of Queensand away from the life he so despises. But like many dreams, this promise of glory evaporates amid the chaos of ordinary lives.

The Sherman Playhouse is a non-Equity theatre company located at 5 Route 39 North (next to the fire station) in Sherman, CT.
