SYLVIA - Eastbound Theatre

Eastbound Theatre, a division of the Milford Arts Council, announces auditions for the second show of its 24th season, the hilarious and touching Sylvia, by A.R. Gurney, directed by Kevin Pelkey.

Performances will be February 2nd through February 18th, 2018, with a special benefit matinee performance Saturday February 10th (snow date Saturday February 17th).

Auditions will be held on December 12th and 13th, 2017 at 7:30 pm at the Milford Center for the Arts (
40 Railroad Avenue South)
. Additionally, interested actors who may be unable to attend those audition times should contact the Director at

to set up an alternate time.

Roles are available for 2 Men (aged 40s to 50s) and 2 Woman (aged 20s to 50s). Actors will be asked to read sides from the script. Actors interested in reviewing the script in advance should contact the Director at

Synopsis:

Greg and Kate have been raising children in suburbia for twenty two years when they decide to take advantage of their empty nest and move to Manhattan. In the throes of this upheaval and a classic mid-life crisis, Greg falls for Sylvia - an adorable Labrador/Poodle mix he finds wandering in Central Park. Unfortunately, Greg's wife Kate is not nearly as smitten. Although Greg sees Sylvia as a new confidant and escape from his increasing anxiety and confusion over his job and his age; Kate sees her as competition for Greg’s affection. Will Greg and Kate be able to work out their issues and incorporate Sylvia into their home and their lives?

Roles Available:

GREG: Male, middle-aged middle class businessman. Married to Kate for

22 years.

KATE: Female, middle-aged teacher. Married to Greg for 22 years.

SYLVIA: Female, 25-35 yrs old. Human playing a lab/poodle mix. Actress will need to be high energy and comfortable with lots of movement

TOM/PHYLLIS/LESLIE:

All three roles to be played by one actor, who is comfortable playing both male and female characters. Tom -Male dog owner. Befriends Greg at the dog park. Phyllis -Female, middle-aged. Friend of Kate. Leslie - Therapist. Ambiguously male and female depending on the patient’s state of mind.
