Superior Donuts Auditions Saturday April 7 at 2 PM and/or Monday April 9 at 6:45 in the Studio Theatre. 7M (two African-American), 2 F – This Tracy Letts’ script is superb, tough, intriguing – good age range of roles (one African-American is late teens/early 20’s, one African-American cop a bit older, two generations of Russian toughs, both of whom get to speak a little Russian and one should be tall/huge/powerful, and two characters who get to be part of a major stage fight). The women’s roles are nicely nuanced and range 30’s to 50’s. Mark Abram-Copenhaver directs this studio show June 1-10.

Anna in the Tropics Auditions Saturday April 28 at 2 PM and Monday April 30 at 6:45 PM on Mainstage. 5 M, 3 F – ages from early 20’s to 50’s. Nilo Cruz’ Pulitzer winner has great language, great characters. Sultry yearning under the surface, nuanced a bit like Chekhov, makes this one fun and exciting to play. Kevin Dreyer is directing - and is not planning to create accents – a mixed cast will work as it reflects Cuban-Americans diversity but he highly encourages Latinos to audition as cultural and linguistic understanding is important to this piece. Performances are June 22-July 1 on the Mainstage.

Special Audition for College Students Saturday May 5 from 3-4 PM on the Mainstage. Head over to SBCT before you leave for summer to audition of one or all of three shows: Steel Magnolias, The Violet Hour, and Wait Until Dark. If you know you can’t make the regular audition dates listed, this is your chance to try out for great roles in these fall shows.

Into the Woods Auditions Monday May 14, Tuesday May 15 at 6:45 at the First united Methodist Church (south of SBCT across Madison Street) 11 to 21 roles (depending on doubling) all with solo bits (no chorus per se). Stephen and Stephanie Salisbury direct and are looking for an adult cast (age 16 and up) for this fun and challenging Stephen Sondheim piece. All auditionees should prepare a song from the show and come ready to sing the entire piece. All characters need to be able to move but it’s not a heavy dance show. Head to MTI online
http://www.mtishows.com/ for music samples and plot summary and Shirk’s for sheet music. Performances are July 27-August 12 on the Mainstage.

Steel Magnolias Auditions Monday July 9 and Tuesday July 10 at 6:45 in the Studio Theatre. 6 Women, ages 20’s to 60’s. Director Debra Godwalt Swerman is new to SBCT but no stranger to theatre. Anyone who has been in or seen this show will share how fun it is and the great potential for developing friendships and acting skills – just a wonderful experience and a great favorite with audiences. Performances are September 7-23 on the Mainstage.

The Violet Hour Auditions Monday July 16 at 6:45 in the Studio. 3 M (two in early to mid-20’s) 2 F (one early to mid-20’s, one slightly older 30’s-40’s African-American). Aaron Nichols directs this gem from Richard Greenberg, a fresh contemporary playwright known for great characters and unique stories. Small cast of terrific roles and will be performed in a to-be-determined found space, tentative dates September-October.
