JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER OF DALLAS’ PERFORMING ARTS SPACE
HOLDS AUDITIONS FOR TWO CASTS OF SEUSSICAL JR. JAN. 17 AND 18, 2016

Students Ages 6-16 Invited to Submit Musical Theater Performance to Facebook to Win Free Course

As Dr. Seuss once wrote, “Oh the places you’ll go.” It’s a fitting tribute to the Jewish Community Center of Dallas’ Performing Arts Space (JPAS), which will hold auditions for the musical Seussical Jr. onSunday, Jan. 17 and Monday, Jan. 18, 2016. During this show, which will feature two casts to accommodate different age groups, Dr. Seuss’s best-loved characters collide and cavort in an unforgettable musical caper. Performers of all ages will get a chance to portray the characters from the familiar and legendary Dr. Seuss fables.

“This pop musical provides wonderful creative opportunities for actors, set, lighting, and costume design. And there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a kid come alive through the power of performance,” said Alise Robinson, manager of The J Performing Arts Space. “Of course, JPAS will put a contemporary twist on this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza!”

Auditions for Seussical Jr. will be held Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016 from 1 to 5:30 p.m.for children age 6 to 10 years old and on Monday, Jan. 18 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.at the Aaron Family Jewish Community Center, 7900 Northaven Road in Dallas. Performers must arrive promptly to auditions and plan to stay the entire time allotted, with exception of parents of children who are 6 and 7 years old. Prior to auditioning, all actors must fill out the audition form (available
online) and bring a headshot (it does not have to be professional quality). Actors are also asked to come prepared with 16-32 bars of a song of choice and the accompanying sheet music.

Cost for registration, which includes more than 50 hours of rehearsals, an acting coach and the experience of a lifetime, is $525 for members and $595 for non-members. Each registration will receive one free adult ticket to a future performance. Registration is available
online.

Through Dec. 15, 2015, performers ages 6 to 16 are invited to be part of JPAS SHOW YOUR TALENT to win a free Seussical Jr. registration. Each contestant can submit a YouTube or Vimeo link showcasing their best musical song or dancing performance to the
JPAS Facebook Page. The voting period will be held from Dec. 16 through 30, 2015. Facebook fans will decide the winning entry and the winner will be announced on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016. For a complete list of rules and requirements, please visit the
JPAS Facebook page. Please note: if anyone is registered to be in Seussical Jr. and is proclaimed the winner of JPAS SHOW YOUR TALENT, The J will reimburse the full registration cost.

JPAS is unique in that it focuses on education as well as performing. It’s not just about the performance. The actors don't just run through lines, learn their marks and follow the director's lead. JPAS actors learn about intentions, how to be part of an ensemble, movement techniques and coordination, listening and social skills and the power of their voices. Additionally, JPAS hires the best directors, musical directors and choreographers in North Texas who have a background in making young actors more well-rounded, and confident in themselves and who will increase their talents to new heights. When JPAS actors finish the production, the goal is for them to have a new-found set of skills that they can use not only use on the stage but in life.

Seussical Jr. will be performed at the Aaron Family Jewish Community Center on Thursday, March 31 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 3, 2016 at 2 and 7 p.m. for the Junior Cast (ages 6 to 11), as well as on Thursday, April 7 at 7 p.m. andSunday, April 10, 2016 at 2 and 7 p.m. for the Senior Cast (ages 12 to 18).
