EDMT Announces Auditions for Oklahoma
|
|
|
El Dorado Musical Theatre will audition for its Spring production,Oklahoma, Monday, February 27th at 3:30 p.m. Auditions will be held at EDMT's rehearsal facility located in the El Dorado Hills Business Park at 5011 Golden Foothill Parkway, Suite #4.
Oklahoma is the story of Laurey and the two rivals who try to win her affections: Curly, a cowboy, and Jud, the hired farmhand. It tackles class issues between the farmers and the cowmen in the still-developing, rugged landscape of a state in its infancy as characters struggle to find hope, love and the fulfillment of "the American Dream." It is also a romantic tale of love. Curly and Laurey both have feelings but have difficulty expressing it because of their stubbornness. To spite Curly, Laurey accepts an invitation to the local dance from the evil Jud Fry. Eventually, Curly and Jud duel it out, with Jud ending up falling on his own knife and dying. Meanwhile, Will Parker has returned early from his trip to Kansas City. Unfortunately, his girlfriend, Ado Annie, just can't seem to say no to other men. All turns out well in the end as both couples end up happily married.
Featuring songs such as "Oh What a Beautiful Mornin'", "I Cain't Say No", and "Oklahoma." This production will be filled with high energy and plenty of singing and dancing. Performances run from April 20th - May 6, 2012, at Three Stages at Folsom Lake College in Folsom. All who audition should dress to dance and be prepared to sing a song of up to one minute in length to either a background CD, acapella or with the piano accompanist. Pre-registration for auditions will take place online at

Show Summary: East coast lawyers (Ava Jean - "AJ" and Aaron Weiss who are also on again off again lovers) are both disillusioned with the current status Quo. They set out to Arizona to help the Indians in their fight against the ranchers. As Aaron becomes more frustrated with the events around him, he conjures up his old time western hero "The Laredo Kid" to help him sort things out. Unfortunately, the new west and the old west are not the same and The Laredo Kid isn't quite sure how to help Aaron become The Majestic Kid . A new love interest for Aaron and a judge who's a real bully complicate things even more.

Adapted from Frances Hodgson Bumett's classic story "Sara Crew," this new musical version of a "Riches-to-rags-to-riches" story takes place mostly at Miss Minchin's Select Seminary for Young Ladies in Victorion-era London . The
scenes of the play occur in a classroom, an attic, and the parlor of the wealthy Mr. Carrisford.

Audition Requirements
* Singing: Auditioners may sing any song with musical accompaniment from a CD or I- pod or with a live piano accompanist. (An accompanist will be available). Backing recordings must be instrumental only (No vocal back-up). Singing without accompaniment will not be allowed. Songs must be sung from memory.
* Readings : Will consist of cold readings from the script. Scripts are available for check-out from the Imagination Theater Box Office after January 1, 2012 .
* Movement & Dance: Advanced dancing experience is not necessary. Auditioners will learn and then demonstrate some very basic dance steps. Auditioners should wear comfortable, loose-fitting shoes and clothing. Flip-flops, sandals, and bare feet are not allowed for auditions.
* Photographs: Auditioners must bring a photograph of themselves (minimum 5"x7" size) to attach to the audition form they will receive at the auditions. Expensive or elaborate head-shots are not required. Resumes from all auditioners are encouraged.
* Fees: There is no fee for auditioning. There is a $65.00 Participation fee for those cast in the production. (Used primarily to pay for insurance). This fee is due at the April 7th Read-Through.
* Rehearsal and Performance Schedules: Will be distributed at the end of the Call-Back Audition.
Audition Information for The Secret Garden
We are pleased to announce auditions for the musical, The Secret Garden, directed by Lorrene Baum-Davis.Auditions will take place at the theater onSaturday April 21st from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with call backs on Sunday April 22nd between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.The show is scheduled for September 2012.
Auditioners should bring:
·Five copies of theater resume'
·One head shot
·Sing a song similar to the musical and to the role that is being pursued. There will be an accompanist so bring sheet music or a CD to sing to.
·Dress in comfortable clothing

Based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnet, The Secret Garden tells the story of Mary Lennox, a lonely girl who is sent to live with her uncle Archibald in England after being orphaned by a cholera epidemic in India. Still grieving over the loss of his beloved wife Lily, who died ten years earlier during childbirth and distraught over the condition of his bedridden son, Archibald casts a dark shadow over the manor until Mary discovers a secret garden that had once belonged to Lily. By nursing this garden back to life, Mary somehow restores life to her grieving uncle and his sick son.This uplifting show will fill everyone with hope, the promise of joy and love.

Rick: between thirty and thirty-five, new husband of Francesca (precast). He is an architect. He is practical and logical but also excitable. He jumps to conclusions sometimes without thinking. He is desperately in love with Francesca.
Bill: between thirty and thirty-five, boyfriend of Sara (precast). Bill is a dentist and should come across as somewhat dull. Even Sara, his fiancé, doesn't believe he is romantic. He has no particular physical traits but should be believable next to Sara
Silvio: between thirty and thirty-five, handsome Italian artist, gigolo, playboy...Suave. Good Looking. Witty and charming. Tall, if possible. Dark haired, if possible. He is an artist and has the ability to talk women - models and others - out of their clothes. Yet, he has his honor.

Giddy up to Main Street Theatre Works Spring Fundraiser
Dinner, prizes, auction and much more ~ an offer you can't refuse
Last year, Main Street Theatre Works (MSTW) transformed the Native Sons Hall in Sutter Creek into the Hotel Coq d'Or. A ruckus pajama party took place and got everyone in the mood for MSTW's first summer show, A Flea in Her Ear. This year, they're bringing in silver screen gangsters and cowboys to promote and raise money for their 2012 Summer Season, Taming of the Shrew (Shakespeare ~ Jersey Style) and The Majestic Kid (think Roy Rodgers).
The fundraiser will be Saturday, March 31st, 6:00 p.m. at the Native Sons Hall in Sutter Creek. Guests are encouraged to come as their favorite Guido, Guidette, or cowpoke, and maybe win a prize. Dinner will be served, music will be enjoyed, and games will be played to win fabulous prizes. There will also be the popular 50/50 Raffle, where the winner gets 50% of the pot. Tickets for the event are $25 per person, and can be purchased through the MSTW website at www.mstw.org., or at Hein & Company, 204 Main St, Jackson. Seating is very limited and this event has sold out the last two years, so be sure to get your tickets early.

RECOVERING FROM A HEART ATTACK HAS NEVER BEEN SO FUNNY.
Arden Playhouse is pleased to present Oatmeal and Kisses, a romantic comedy by Murray Schisgal. (Produced with permission of Dramatists Play Service, Inc.) Murray Schisgal is well known for his off-beat comedy, LUV. He has written over fifty plays for the stage and has also written for television and films. In 1993 Schisgal was an Oscar nominee in the screen play catagory for "Tootsie".
Oatmeal and Kisses is being directed by Blake Flores, who has been acting, directing and producing in local community theater for over thirty years. He began his directorial endeavors in 1987 with the Volcano Theatre Company's production of Fred Carmichael's Done To Death. He has since directed over 30 local productions, most recently Jack Sharkey's Who's On First? at Big Idea Theatre, which he co-founded in 2003.
Arden Playhouse is thrilled to welcome Blake Flores and three new actors to its family for this amazing ensemble. Dan Beard (Schneider), Frank Hickox (Peter), and Corinne Nelson (Roxanne), are the talented cast bringing life to Oatmeal and Kisses. Dan Beard has worked in numerous theaters around the Sacramento area including the WSCT as well as the Woodland Opera House, The Thistle Dew Theater, the Ooley Theater and the Big Idea Theater. Frank Hickox has been acting since high school. His plays include Arsenic and Old Lace, Out of Sight, Out of Murder and The Servant of Two Masters. Corinne Nelson has been active in theatre most of her life and has an extensive background in improvisation and is an alum of the Sacramento Comedy Spot's Free Hooch Comedy Troupe.
Schneider is a dynamo, living life to the fullest. But, with age, there have been consequences. A short stay in the hospital because of a heart attack has reminded him of his mortality. Although it has made him concerned about what might become of Roxanne, his much younger wife, he has forgotten that he agreed to get help in changing his life-style. When the specialist arrives from the hospital things start to get complicated. Peter is a physical fitness doctor who lives with his patients for several weeks while he gets them to change their diet and other risky habits. At first Schneider objects to this plan, but after Roxanne uses some charm and threats, he agrees. But Schneider has another motive in mind. Later, after Schneider has become a health-nut, it appears that he has been trying to get Peter to marry Roxanne...and the doctor is certainly enamored of her by this point. But, at last, it is Roxanne who gets exactly what she wants.
Oatmeal and Kisses runs Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 through February 25.Performances are on Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm with
Sunday matinees at 2pm on January 22 and February 5, 2012.

Chautauqua Playhouse announces their next show, the comedy
THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB
by Jesse Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, opening on January 13th at the Playhouse.
The show will run on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm through February 19th.
All performances will be held at the Chautauqua Playhouse, 5325 Engle Road in the La Sierra Community Center in Carmichael. Admission is $19 general and $17 students, seniors, children and SARTA members.
Five Southern women who first met on their college swim team many years ago get together for a long weekend each August to recharge their relationships. When these women meet up anything can happen and usually does. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to laugh, catch up, and meddle in each other's lives. This story of five unforgettable women is a touching comedy about friendships that last forever.
The production is directed by Paul Fearn and features Lee Marie Kelly, Shaleen Schmutzer-Smith, Georgann Wallace, Julie Bock and Kim Moses.Set design is by Rodger Hoopman with lighting design by Don Myers.

KOLT Opens First Full Season With Lucy Thurber's "Unforgettable" New Classic Sacramento's daring, critically acclaimed theatre company, KOLT Run Creations, kicks off its "Revelations: 2012" season with Lucy Thurber's intense, poignant play, Where We're Born.
Where We're Born tells the story of Lilly, a scholarship student, who returns to her rural hometown on a break from college to spend time with her beloved cousin Tony, his longtime girlfriend Franky and their misfit friends. As they drink, smoke and while away the time, bonds are cemented and dissolved as Lilly confronts the idea that sometimes, in order to leave home, you have to destroy it. Time Out Chicago raved, "Thurber's play is an aching, truthful portrait of small-town volatility." Chicago Theater Beat proclaims, "Where We're Born is set in a familiar state. It's any Hometown, USA. Childhood chums destined to live a lifetime in repetitive motion. It's a heartbreaking story of the one who got away. Where We're Bornis an unforgettable poignant dramedy."
Where We're Born stars local favorites Jessicah Neufeld, Brian Harrower, David Chernyavsky, John Young and KOLT Executive Director Kelley Ogden with Producing Director Lisa Thew directing. "This play embodies that nexus between growing beyond a place or people you once belonged to and yet not having found the place you do belong. Its about forging an identity." says Thew, "It's a story I think we most know well and I am incredibly excited to bring it to the stage."
KOLT's first full season, named "Revelations: 2012", features three exciting productions all by female playwrights. Following Where We're Born, KOLT will present Rachel Axler's dark comedy about parenthood called Smudge which the New York Times called "creepy and funny, precise and imaginative" in April and May. Finally, KOLT's finale production of 2012 is Caryl Churchill's feminist classic, Vinegar Tom which opens in October.
Where We're Born will run from Feb. 3-26 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sunday performances at 2pm on Feb. 19 and 26.

When the Soady clan reunites for the opening day of deer season at the family's Upper Peninsula camp, thirty-five-year-old Reubin Soady brings with him the infamous reputation of being the oldest Soady in the history of the Soadys never to bag a buck. In a hunting story to beat all hunting stories, Escanabe in da Moonlight spins a hilarious tale of humor, horror and heart as Reuben goes to any and all lengths to remove himself from the wrong end of the family record book.
