PUCCINI'S GIANNI SCHICCHI - St. Faith's Anglican Church

AUDITION NOTICE: Puccini's Gianni Schicchi

Opera Mariposa is seeking singers for a production of Puccini’s comic opera GIANNI SCHICCHI, music directed by John Arsenault and stage directed by Jeanine Fynn. This fully staged production will be performed in Italian with English subtitles, and the opera will be presented alongside a costumed performance of operatic songs and scenes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gianni_Schicchi#Roles. We are auditioning artists for all roles except La Ciesca. Voice type is flexible for comprimario roles such as Doctor, Notary, and the two witnesses Pinellino and Guccio.

  • AUDITION DATE: Saturday, June 22, 2019 – 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
  • AUDITION VENUE: Martha Lou Henley Rehearsal Hall (at the Michael & Inna O’Brian Centre for Vancouver Opera) – entrance at 1955 McLean Drive, Vancouver
  • PERFORMANCE DATES: 7:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, November 15-23, 2019
  • PERFORMANCE VENUE: St. Faith's Anglican Church - 7284 Cypress Street at W. 57th, Vancouver
  • HOW TO APPLY: Please submit a headshot and resume to operamariposa@gmail.com and we will reply with your audition time. Please mention which role(s) you are interested in, as well as whether you are an Equity artist. It should be noted that unfortunately, we have very limited spots available for Equity artists at this time.
  • APPLICATION DEADLINE: Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 11:59pm PST.

Please prepare two contrasting arias for your audition, including one in Italian. If you are auditioning specifically for a comprimario role (doctor, notary etc.) and do not have two classical pieces, one will do! We ask that artists arrive 15-20 minutes early for their audition time, and bring a clean copy of their sheet music as well as hard copies of their headshot and resume.

If you wish to audition but are not available on Saturday, June 22nd, or if you would like to audition for us remotely, please email us a video or sound recording along with your headshot and resume to be considered along with the other auditioners. The deadline to send a digital audition is Friday, June 21st at 11:59pm PST.

This is a profit-share production with guaranteed honoraria for leading roles (Gianni Schicchi, Rinuccio, Lauretta). Further details will be available at audition.
