The Sherman Playhouse will hold auditions for its final show of the 2022 season, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Kate Hamill, based on the novel by Jane Austen. The show will be directed by Michael Wright of Newtown.
This isn’t your grandmother’s Austen! This Pride and Prejudice for a new era explores the absurdities and thrills of finding your perfect (or imperfect) match in life. The outspoken Lizzy Bennet is determined to never marry, despite mounting pressure from society. But can she resist love, especially when that vaguely handsome, mildly amusing, and impossibly aggravating Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn?! Literature’s greatest tale of latent love has never felt so theatrical, or so full of life than it does in this effervescent adaptation.
The production is looking for 8 actors to play multiple roles (Note: the roles of LIZZY and DARCY will not be doubled). Some roles may include Standard British English or regional/international accents. Sides will be available on the website and also provided at auditions. Auditioners can prepare one very short comic monologue (45 seconds – 1 minute [not required]). No appointments are necessary. Rehearsals begin on October 2. Auditions will be Sunday, August 28, and Monday, August 29, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Auditions will be held at the Mallory Town Hall (across from The Sherman Playhouse), 9 Route 39 North (next to the fire station), in Sherman, CT. Please do NOT enter the Playhouse during audition times. Video submissions should be sent to douxwright@gmail.com anytime Sunday August 28 thru Tuesday August 30.
All those auditioning must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination. All cast/crew must be fully vaccinated before start of rehearsals.
