Garden Theatre Announces Auditions for Peter Pan
Open Call for All Roles October 19 - 23, 2014
The Garden Theatre is pleased to announce auditions for its self-produced spring musical Peter Pan. Auditions will be held at the Garden Theatre (160 West Plant Street in Winter Garden) from October 19 – 23, 2014.
Peter Pan will run May 1 - 31, 2015 at the Garden Theatre, with Friday and Saturday evening performances, and matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday.

Rehearsals begin March 9, 2015. Some cast members will be required to make various public appearances in conjunction with show publicity. Performances of Peter Pan run from May 1 - 31, 2015, Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 2pm and 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm.

Lead Character Breakdown
PETER PAN - Childhood and boyishness personified, Peter is athletic and not shy about taking to flight when the moment suits him. His reflexes are catlike and his presence exhilarating. A creature of constant motion. Both males and females of various ages are encouraged to audition for the role of Peter Pan.
CAPTAIN HOOK - The one-handed captain of the Jolly-Roger. Relentless and restless in his pursuit of Pan, Hook is short-fused and ridiculous. He is a larger than life villain.
Male, 30-50 years old
JOHN NAPOLEON DARLING - The middle Darling child. A sly smile is always at home on John’s face. He has a mischievous twinkle in his eye and is always ready for an adventure.
Male, 11-14 years old
MICHAEL DARLING - The youngest Darling child. Never far from his favorite Teddy, Michael is sweet and innocent. He is ever so lovable and very huggable.
Male, 6-9 years old
MR. DARLING - A bit of grouch, Mr. Darling is a professional who happens to be a father. Though sparkles of his love peak through from time to time, he often has places to go and people to see. He may be of imposing size.
Male, 30-50 years old
MRS. DARLING - The Darling matriarch. Mrs. Darling glides about gently but swiftly from task to task with motherly precision. She has a pleasant strength to her demeanor.
Female, 25-45 years old
SMEE - Captain Hook’s knockabout lackey. An archetypical evil side-kick, Smee might be a bit rotund and is definitely dwarfed by Hook. Should be portrayed by an actor with physical comedy chops.
Male, 28-48 years old
TIGER LILY - A striking Native American princess, Tiger Lily is a tough girl and an excellent dancer. She should command the stage when taking it and move about it as would mist.
Female, 14-17 years old
WENDY DARLING - The eldest Darling child. Wendy is compassionate, incredibly loving, and very protective of her younger brothers. She is the child every parent wishes they had.
Female, 13-16 years old
Ensemble
Ensemble players will include Indians, the Lost Boys, pirates and various animals.
Audition Requirements – Children
• Each performer must be between the ages of 5 and 14.
• Each performer should be ready to perform either “My Country ‘Tis of Thee,” “Happy Birthday” (with the accompanist), or 32 bars of a song of choice (must provide sheet music).
• No a cappella singing allowed and no monologues required.
• If available, each performer may bring two headshots/résumés.
• Each performer should be dressed ready to move as they may be asked to learn and perform a short piece of choreography.
• Each performer should know their schedule availability for the rehearsal and performance period beginning early March throughMay 31, 2015.
Audition Requirements – Adults
• Each performer should be ready to perform 32 bars of a song. Be prepared to sing the entire song if asked and please provide sheet music for accompanist. No mp3 players, CDs, or a cappella.
• Each performer should be dressed ready to move as they may be asked to learn and perform a short piece of choreography.
• Each performer should bring two headshots/résumés (if available).
• Monologues and dancing may be required at callbacks.
• Each performer should know their schedule availability for the rehearsal and performance period beginning early March throughMay 31, 2015.
About Peter Pan
A family classic, Peter Pan premiered on October 20, 1954 at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City, featuring a book by J.M. Barrie, music by Mark “Moose” Charlap and Jule Style, lyrics by Carolyn Leigh, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, direction and choreography by Jerome Robbins. Mary Martin played the lead role of the boy who won’t grow up. Since that time, the musical has been revived five times on Broadway.
Join Peter Pan, Wendy, Michael and John in the timeless Broadway musical that will whisk you away to a place where dreams are born and no one ever grows up. The travelers come face to face with a ticking crocodile, a fierce Indian tribe, a band of bungling pirates, and of course the villainous Captain Hook in one of the most beloved family favorites of all time.
Each spring, Garden Theatre selects a large cast musical to showcase both professional and community members on the stage, featuring professional designers and production team members. This Garden Theatre production is directed by Karen Rugerio and will feature advanced digital technology by Nth Degree.
About the Director
Karen Rugerio, founder of Act III Acting Studio and former Director of Theatre at Dr. Phillips High School, will direct. Although Rugerio retired from Dr. Phillips in May of this year, she is in the process of starting a new program in which students with disabilities or autism learn acting skills. The program is being named Robin's Nest Kids Co. after the late Robin Cherney, a woman who loved acting and made great strides on the stage at Dr. Phillips. Rugerio has continued her partnership with the Garden Theatre as director of the Garden Theatre summer camps program, and this will be her first time directing a production for the theatre.
