Casting Call for MTA’s Once on This Island Jr.

Audition Preparation Workshops Available

Musical Theatre of Anthem (MTA) announces auditions for Once on This Island Jr., a highly original theatrical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's popular fairy tale, The Little Mermaid, and the Tony-nominated Broadway musical by the legendary writing team, Ahrens and Flaherty.

Auditions for this no-cut production for ages 6-18 will be held January 13-14, 2018 at MTA in Anthem.

Through almost non-stop song and dance, this full-hearted musical tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest that will test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and even death.

The award-winning production staff includes Co-Directors/Co-Choreographers, Sarah Brayer and Lyndsie Clymer, Vocal Director, Jackie Hammond and Stage Manager, Sarah Brayer.

Rehearsals begin January 18, with performances taking place February 22-25, 2018.

General vocal auditions will be held Saturday, January 13 at 11 a.m. with callbacks on Sunday, January 14. Those auditioning should prepare a musical theatre song, 16-32 bars or one minute in length. Bring an accompaniment CD or iPod to sing with; you may also sing a capella if needed. Please have your registration materials
(available on the website) completed prior to coming to the audition. If you are unable to make the scheduled audition time, please contact
musicaltheatreofanthem@gmail.com for an alternate appointment time. Auditions, callbacks, and rehearsals are held at MTA’s theatre performance space at 42323 N. Vision Way, Anthem, AZ 85086.

Tuition and costume fee for this production is $275, with a 10% sibling discount. Scholarships are available through the
Lyle Kishbaugh Scholarship Fund for participants who might otherwise not be able to participate. Please visit our website for more information.

Audition Preparation Workshops will be held on Thursday, January 11 from 4:30 – 6 p.m. and 6 – 7:30.p.m, During these 90-minute sessions, participants will be instructed on cold reads, acting technique, characterization and more. Participants of the workshops will get to audition prior to the general audition time. Cost is just $35 and space is limited to just 18 participants per session. There is a 10% sibling discount.
