NEW HAMPSHIRE THEATRE PROJECT 2019-20 SEASON - New Hampshire Theatre Project

Open Auditions at New Hampshire Theatre Project for 2019-2020 Season

New Hampshire Theatre Project will hold open auditions on Wednesday June 19 at their black box theatre in the West End. Auditions slots are available beginning at 5.45 pm. Actors can sign-up for a slot at

NHTP’s 2019-20 season runs from October through to June with a eclectic program of contemporary works, re-imagined classics, an expanded Storytelling Festival and a brand new devised work created by the New Hampshire Theatre Project’s company artists. “We’re looking for actors in classical and contemporary roles, both men and women of varied ages from diverse backgrounds,” explains NHTP Associate Artistic Director Catherine Stewart. “It’s important to us that we are representing a diverse community on our stage, one that reflects the society we want to live in.” Available roles include those that grapple with Shakespearean text, as well as newly constructed dialogue that speaks unabashedly about today’s world.

“Our upcoming season explores the theme of ‘Can One Person Make A Difference,’” adds Stewart. “Each play has been hand-picked by our programming committee in order to tackle meaningful problems, and each of the characters represent voices that we need to hear. Casting six shows, as well as finding actors for our playreadings and other events, can be challenging - we need skilled performers who are willing to take risks, learn and grow as artists.”

New Hampshire Theatre Project relies primarily on its company artists, a core of skilled performers from around the seacoast; however the door is always open to new actors looking for a space to work with, and for, the community. “Our actors often join us in other projects, not only the MainStage,” says Stewart. “We might need a performer for a Theatre For Life workshop in a corporate setting, or for an Artist-in-Residence program at a school or hospital. We know that performers are versatile, and so once we’ve connected to an artist via our MainStage Auditions there are often many other avenues they can take within our organization.”

Actors interested in auditioning can sign-up for a slot at
nhtheatreproject.org/news. Auditioners are asked to please bring a resume (x4 copies) and a headshot (x1 copy). Actors must prepare a short (2 minute) contemporary monologue, (comedic preferred) and to arrive ten minutes before their slot in order to fill in relevant paperwork. Callbacks will be arranged individually by each individual show director.

NHTP is dedicated to the art of theatre-making and how it can spark conversation, broaden individual knowledge and strengthen communities. “It’s not only performers we are looking to attract,” adds Stewart. “We are also looking to expand our roster of technical staff - lighting, costume, props, set and projection designer. And again opportunities exist not only in show production but also in teaching and applied theatre settings.” The company is based at their 50-seat black box theatre in the heart of Portsmouth’s culturally vibrant West End, and programs are delivered across the region in schools, businesses, healthcare institutions and community organizations. NHTP is known around the state as an applied theatre company that promotes challenging dialogue through productions, workshops, and artist-in-residence programs.
