Readings from the script will take place at CST’s new rehearsal hall and business office located at 806 W. Main, which is right next door to the theatre on the west side. If the door is locked, ring the doorbell to be admitted. Actors should bring a resume and an up-to-date photo. A headshot is preferred, but a good snapshot will suffice. Please be prepared to list any and all conflicts during the rehearsal and performance periods.
Reading the script before auditions is strongly recommended! Perusal scripts are available for a $10 refundable deposit. We recommended that you bring a check that we can return to you, but of course, we will accept cash.
Please call CST at 405-232-6500 to make arrangements to check out a script. Before dropping by, do call ahead to make sure a script is available and someone is in the office to check it out to you. The CST office is closed on Mondays, and is open Tuesdays through Fridays 1-6 pm. If you need to come by at another time, please call us and we’ll make arrangements.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals begin March 4 or possibly February 25 if we need to work around Spring Break conflicts. Most rehearsals will be scheduled Mon-Fri at 7 p.m. with some possible weekend daytime rehearsals to accommodate cast conflicts.
Synopsis:
MY NAME IS ASHER LEV is based on Chaim Potok’s 1972 novel. It follows the journey of a young Jewish painter in the 1950s struggling with his relationship with his parents, religion, and his love of art. When his artistic genius threatens to destroy his relationship with his parents and community, young Asher realizes he must make a difficult choice between art and faith. This stirring adaptation of a modern classic presents a heartbreaking and triumphant vision of what it means to be an artist. This is by the same author as “The Chosen,” an award-winning modern classic which was adapted into a film in 1981 and a stage play in 1999.

Cast:
2 men, 1 woman total. 1 man and the woman play multiple roles. These 2 actors should have a good ear for dialects. Set in Brooklyn and Manhattan in the 1950s, most of the older men & women characters will speak with New York and Yiddish dialects.
Asher Lev (20-30) – A painter, really a prodigy, who was raised as an observant Hasidic Jew. He is notorious for painting the “Brooklyn Crucifixions.” The play is his memory. In Act 1, he appears present day and at 12 years old, 6 years old, 7 years old, and 10 years old. In Act 2 he appears at 13 years old, 18, and in his twenties.
The Men (40s-50s) – Portrays Asher’s father Aryeh, his uncle Yitchok, the Rebbe, and artist and mentor Jacob Kahn in his seventies.
The Women (30s-40s) – Portrays Asher’s mother Revkeh, Manhattan gallery owner Anna Schaeffer, and Rachel, a nude model for Asher. The nude scene is very brief and will play with her entering in a robe. She sits with her back to the audience and opens her robe. The actress will need to at least appear topless from the audience’s vantage point.
