Lilies examines how relationships and choices made early in life can emerge when death draws near. It is a play-within-a-play set in a prison and addresses issues relating to punishment, redemption, religion, and ultimately, love.

Characters:
Simon 1952 (Late 40’s-Early 60’s) - Having been locked away in prison for most of his life, Simon has become gentle and calm with his age, but a quiet rage burns inside him. Despite being innocent of the crime he was accused of, he still carries the guilt with him, and mourns the life lost.
Bishop Bilodeau 1952 (Late 40’-Early 60’s) – An air of superiority floats around this man wherever he goes. Having risen up through the diocese, Bishop Bilodeau has forgotten that he is a fallible human. Over the course of the play, this stark realization rushes back to him.
Simon 1912 (Early 20’s) - Simon spends much of the play trying to make others happy and be the person he is told to be. He is often oblivious to the effects his words have on others but he means well at heart.
Vallier 1912 (early 20’s) - Innocent and gentle. Vallier is full of love and is a creature of emotions, giving way to them at a moment’s notice.
Bilodeau 1912 (early 20’s) He walks around with an air of superiority, but it comes from a place of privilege and misguided intent. His demeanor falls somewhere between youthful awkwardness and brattiness.
Countess de Tilly (30’s-60’s) - The countess is a whirlwind of emotions, going from spiraling madness to simple empathy, often within a few lines. Can be played slightly over the top so long as it comes from a place of sincerity.
Lydie-Anne (30’s-40’s) - Lydia’s personality should be understated. The audience should forget that they are watching a man in a bad wig, and fully give over to the belief that they are watching a scorned woman.
Father St. Michel & Baron (40-50) - Somewhere between fatherly love and avuncular wit. Must have a sense of comedic timing.
Student & Baroness (any age) - Character actors wanted!!! The actor playing this role will be playing a 14 year boy, and a 60 year old Baroness (images of Maggie Smith in Dowton Abby come to mind).
