LEND ME A TENOR AND SOUTH PACIFIC - The Candlelight Theatre

The Candlelight Theatre will present Ken Ludwig’s Lend Me a Tenor May 11 – June 23, 2019 and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific July 13 – August 25. Lend Me a Tenor director: Bob Kelly; South Pacific director/choreographer: Renee Dobson, musical director: Doug Lutz.

Auditions for both shows will be held Monday, February 18 and Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at The Candlelight Theatre in Wilmington, Delaware and Monday, February 25, 2019 at The Rock School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Sign in at 6:30 pm if auditioning for both shows. If only auditioning for Lend Me a Tenor sign in is 7:30. No appointments. All ethnicities strongly encouraged to attend. Please prepare 16 - 32 bars showing range in the style of the show. If auditioning for Max, Tito, or the Bellhop in Lend Me a Tenor please prepare 32 bars of a song - either classical or legit musical theater. Readings will be provided. Please come with headshot and resume stapled together, do not send in advance. All roles open and paid. Restaurant opportunities available.

Lend Me a Tenor rehearsals will begin (approximately) March 19. Performances are May 11 – June 23 and generally Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Also scheduled: 1 Thursday evening- June 13; 2 Wednesday matinees (1pm) – May 15 and June 19.South Pacific rehearsals will begin (approximately) May 14. Performances are July 13 – August 25 and generally Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Also scheduled: 1 Thursday evening August 8; 2 Wednesday matinees (1pm) – July 31 and August 14.

Lend Me a Tenor character breakdown: All roles require very strong comic timing. Readings will be provided. If auditioning for Max,Tito or the Bellhop please prepare 32 bars of a song - either classical or legit musical theater.

Henry Saunders: Strong comedic actor. General Manager of the Cleveland Opera and father of Maggie. High - strung and lives on the edge of a nervous breakdown. 40's - 50's.

Max: Saunder's long-suffering assistant. Boyfriend of Maggie. replaces Tito in the opera. Strong actor/singer. 20's.

Maggie Saunders: Saunders daughter and max's girlfriend. Has a great admiration for Tito. 20's.

Tito Morelli: The world's most renowned opera tenor and a notorious ladies man. Strong comedic actor and singer. 30's - 40's. Italian accent

Maria: Tito's long suffering wife with a volcanic temper. Loves Tito despite his philandering. 30's - 40's. Italian accent.

Diana: Opera soprano who is flinging her way to the top. A seducer. 20's - 30's.

Bellhop: working at the hotel is his “day job,” until he is discovered as the great opera singer he aspires to be. must sing, some ability to speak or learn to speak some Italian. 20's - 30's

Julia: Chairwoman of the Cleveland Opera Guild. Considers herself a grande dame 50's - 60's.

South Pacific Character Breakdown

Emile De Beque : Legit Baritone. Excellent actor. 40's - 50's. French civilian plantation owner. Widower with 2 children.

Ensign Nellie Forbush - Mezzo belt. Excellent actress. 20 - 30. In love with Emile but struggles with her conservative upbringing.

Bloody Mary - Mezzo. 30's - 40's. Polynesian mother of Liat. Sharp instincts.

Lt. Joe Cable: Strong tenor. 20 - 30. Falls in love with Liat.

Luther Billis: Baritone. Comedic Actor. Leader of the Seabees. 20's - 30's.

Stewpot: Baritone. Comedic Actor. 20's. Protégé of Billis

Professor: Baritone. Comedic role. 20's - 30's. Also a protégé of Billis

Bob McCaffrey: Radio operator/Seabee. Bari/tenor. 20's

Buzz Adams: Navy pilot/Seabee. Bari/tenor. 20's - 30's.

Captain Brackett: Strong actor. (Non-singing role). 40's - 60's.

Commander Harbison: Strong Actor (Non-singing role). Late 20's- 40's.

Liat: Polynesian daughter of Bloody Mary. (Non singing role) late teens - early 20's.

Ngana: Polynesian daughter of Emile. Sings. 6-11

Jerome: Polynesian son of Emile. Sings. 7-12.

Ensemble: (Nurses and Seabees) Strong actor/singers. Must move well..20's - 30's.
