I And You

By Lauren Gunderson

Directed by Eric Berg

Mid-APRIL - JUNE

SEEKING:

Non-Equity actors for principle cast and understudies for I and You by Lauren Gunderson. Understudies will perform at least one performance.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

CAROLINE – a girl, 17. Any race, not the same race as Anthony. She doesn’t go out. She does not expect company. She is sick, but mainly just looks a little weak and frumpy. She is cynical, over it, does not let a stray “feeling” near the surface. Small, but mighty. Like a dachshund.

ANTHONY – a boy, 17. Any race, not the same race as Caroline. He is neat, poised—adults tell him he’s “mature for his age.” He’s an A-student, a team player, everyone likes him. He takes his homework very seriously. When he likes something (jazz music) he is ALL IN. He suffers from an “artistic deficit.” He’s really not great around girls.

SUMMARY: Caroline hates poetry. Home-bound from a life-threatening liver condition, she has decided isolation is the safest way to spend her few remaining days. But Anthony, a devoted Walt Whitman enthusiast, has other plans. Also their team project is due tomorrow. A play about how a mundane school project on Leaves of Grass can grow into life-altering event. An examination of youth, human connection, and what it means to die young. Show runs 90 minutes.
