WAUKESHA CIVIC THEATRE ANNOUNCES OPEN AUDITIONS FOR:

Gypsy

Book by Arthur Laurents, Music by Jule Styne, and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim

Open auditions for the Waukesha Civic Theatre’s production of Gypsy will be held:

  • Sunday, June 12 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm
  • Monday, June 13 from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm
  • Tuesday, June 14 from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm
  • Callbacks, if needed, will be on Thursday, June 16 at 8 pm

Auditions will be held at the Waukesha Civic Theatre Building at 264 West Main Street, Waukesha. Those auditioning should prepare 32 bars of music and provide sheet music in their key for the accompanist. Unaccompanied auditions are discouraged. Those auditioning should be prepared to read from the script. If you tap dance, can twirl a baton, and/or can do the splits, be prepared to show those skills. Character descriptions and a general casting concept from the director are also available at the WCT web site audition page.

Please sign up for a specific audition time by going to the WCT web site audition page and clicking on the
link provided. Adults age 26 and older are encouraged to select later time slots, to allow the earlier times for actors age 8 to 25, or those interested in a dance role. Walk in auditions will be allowed, but will be seen after scheduled auditions are completed. Everyone interested in being considered for a dance role will also be taught a short dance routine. If you want to be considered for a dance role sign up for a spot in the first two hours of auditions each night. Everyone in the first 45 minutes of the first and second hours will learn a short dance routine in the last 15 minutes of each hour.

The musical story of the quintessential stage mother and the daughter she’s determined to make into a star. From vaudeville performer to burlesque dancer, Gypsy Rose Lee’s colorful story comes to life in this classic musical. As part of our 60th Season Diamond Anniversary Celebration, the role of Rose will be played by Kelli Cramer and the role of Herbie will be played by John Cramer. Featuring popular songs like “Some People,” “Let Me Entertain You,” Together Wherever We Go,” “Rose’s Turn,” and the show-stopping, “Everything’s Coming Up Roses.”

Rose and Herbie will be played by Kelli Cramer and John Cramer. All other roles are open.

There are 12 roles for women and girls aged 8-40. There are 11 roles for men and boys aged 8-60.
