South Bend Civic Theatre announces auditions for Gypsy February 6-7

South Bend Civic Theatre will hold auditions for the adult roles in Gypsy February 6-7

from 6:00-9:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, 333 N Main St (just south

across Madison St from the theatre), downtown South Bend. Auditioners should

prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre piece of their choice. Please bring sheet music in

the key you will be performing in. Please mark start and end clearly in music. An

accompanist will be provided. If you will be auditioning for a role that requires

dancing please bring clothes to move in.

Roles include:

• Rose- an over-bearing stage mother; strong voice and commanding presence

• Baby June- her starlet daughter; strong singer and dancer (tap preferred)

• Baby Louise- June’s neglected sister; singer and dancer

• Herbie-their manager and agent in love with Rose; singer

• Tulsa- a singing and dancing boy in love with June; strong singer and dancer

(tap preferred)

• June- baby June all grown up; strong singer and dancer (tap preferred)

• Louise- baby Louise all grown up; strong singer and dancer

• Miss Mazeppa- stripper at a burlesque; comic singer and dancer

• Tessie Tura- stripper at a burlesque; comic singer and dancer

• Elektra- stripper at a burlesque; comic singer and dancer

• 3 newsboys –Baby June’s backup group; singer and strong dancers

• 3-4 farm boys- June’s backup group; singer and strong dancers

• 5-6 females- various chorus roles; some roles are non-singing; some roles could

be double cast

• 6-10 males- various chorus roles; some roles are non-singing; some roles could be

double cast

(Note: Children’s roles will be cast from a separate audition January 29. Please call 574-

968-7496 to schedule an audition for a child actor One of the legendary classics of the musical theatre, Gypsy is the mother of all backstage

parent stories. Mama Rose pushes her daughters to stardom in the waning days of

vaudeville, no matter the cost. Featuring some of the greatest songs in musical history:

“Let Me Entertain You,” “Together Wherever We Go,” “All I Need is the Girl,” and

“Everything’s Coming Up Roses.” Written by Arthur Laurents, with music by Jule

Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, this is sure to be a highlight of SBCT’s 2012

season.

Gypsy will perform on the South Bend Civic Theatre mainstage April 27 to May 13.
