The Sherman Playhouse Holds Casting Call for

George Orwell's

1984

December 8 & 9, 2014

The Sherman Playhouse is seeking a cast of men and women (ages 14 and up) for its premiere show of the 2015 Season, George Orwell's dystopian classic, 1984, adapted for the stage by Robert Owens, Wilton E. Hall, Jr., and William A. Miles, Jr.

It's April 1984, the clocks have struck 13, and comrade 6079, Winston Smith, thinks a thought, starts a diary, and falls in love in a world ruled by three totalitarian powers. The state, given the moniker of Big Brother, watches every move Smith makes. At any moment, Big Brother can open the mysterious door to Room 101, and force Smith to confront a terrifying future even more twisted than the present in which he now lives in 1984.

1984 is under the direction of Kevin Sosbe of New Milford.

Auditions are Monday and Tuesday, December 8 and 9, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at The ShermanPlayhouse, 5 Route 39 North (next to the fire station), in Sherman, CT.

There is a potential for multiple roles. British accents are desirable. The call seeks a committed ensemble for an important work. All roles are available and both professionals and amateurs are welcome. No appointments are necessary. The first read-through is in January with performances running April 9 through May 3, 2015.
