PENOBSCOT THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES DOG AUDITIONS FOR TOTO

Saturday, September 13, 10 am - 3:00 pm

Bangor, ME - Penobscot Theatre Company is seeking a docile dog with a dramatic flair to fill the role of Toto, in its holiday production of The Wizard of Oz! Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport will lead canine auditions, Saturday, September 13, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Pre-registration is required to audition.The show will run December 4-28, with rehearsals starting November 3.

In this American classic, Toto is young Dorothy's fiercely loyal companion, as beloved by fans as the Scarecrow, Lion, and Tin Man. We are looking for a pooch with presence, says Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport, a dog whose personality transcends the stage and helps tell this enchanting story.

In the film version of The Wizard of Oz, Toto was a cairn terrier, but Penobscot Theatre Company welcomes other breeds as well. Any dog less than 12 pounds who is gentle, obedient, reasonably well trained, and great with people of all ages is encouraged to audition.

By September 5, all canine thespians must have their owners submit on their behalf a photo and
registration form to: Penobscot Theatre Company, 115 Main Street, Fourth Floor, Bangor, ME, 04401; attn. TOTO. Hard copies only please.Upon receipt, the theatre will send participants specific audition times. No walk-ups will be permitted on the day of the audition.

The Wizard of Oz, based on the 1900 novel by Frank Baum, became wildly popular when it was adapted into the 1939 musical fantasy film starring Judy Garland. It has become for generations an integral piece of American popular culture.
