DIE FLEDERMAUS - Houston Grand Opera

On the afternoon of Saturday, May 4, Houston Grand Opera will hold auditions for dancers for a production of Johann Strauss II’s classic operetta DIE FLEDERMAUS to be staged during HGO’s 2013-14 season. This production of DIE FLEDERMAUS – set in 1930’s Manhattan – will be directed by Lindy Hume, choreographed by Daniel Pelzig, and conducted by Thomas Rösner.

We are seeking one male/female pair of solo dancers to evoke the dance style of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and four additional male/female pairs of corps dancers to waltz in the party scene and perform other theatrical functions in the opera.

Candidates should be highly skilled dancers. This production will make use of a dancer’s background in ballet, ballroom dancing, and musical theatre.

Candidates for all dancer positions must have full availability on evenings and weekends during the production period of September 25 – November 10, 2013. Engagement as a solo dancer (“Fred” or “Ginger”) may require some weekday daytime availability in addition to the evening and weekend availability noted above.

Please e-mail HGO’s Associate Artistic Administrator Mark Lear at mlear@houstongrandopera.org to register for an audition. Additional detailed information will be provided by e-mail upon registration.

PLEASE NOTE: The Dominic Walsh Dance Theater will also be holding dancer auditions earlier in the day on May 4 for HGO’s production of AIDA. Information on those auditions can be found at www.dwdt.org/the-company/audition/ . Qualified candidates are welcome to submit applications for both audition processes.
