25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE - Hershey Area Playhouse

Playhouse to hold auditions for 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Hershey Area Playhouse announces auditions for its February production of 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee from7 to 9 p.m. December 16 and 17, 2013.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, created by Rebecca Feldman, is the hilarious tale of overachievers’ angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent super spellers vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. The Tony Award winning show (2005 Best Book of a Musical) features an unlikely cast of heroes – quirky, yet charming outsiders who only fit in at the spelling bee. The musical features some mature content and is recommended for an adult audience.

Roles are available for 4 women, 5 men. Three of the women and three of the men will be portraying the “quirky” adolescents, so the director will be looking for adult women and men who can play teenagers.

Auditioners should come prepared with a monologue of their choosing, and will also be asked to read from the script. In addition, actors should have prepared at least 32 measures of a song that will showcase their range and vocal ability.

Roles will be cast before the holidays, but rehearsals will not begin (with the exception of a cast meeting) until after the first of the year.
