Theater Bug proudly presents The Theater Bug Ten-Minute Play Festival, two evenings of new plays by Nashville’s best and brightest new writers. Written by Nashville students, these eight brand-new short plays are full of amazing characters, beautiful language, moments of extraordinary drama, and laugh-out-loud-comedy. The plays explore a wide range of contemporary topics including mental health, grief, human connection, and how to survive if you get sucked into the multiverse.
Original ten-minute plays are submitted by Nashville-area students and selected through a professional reading process. The selected playwrights are invited to a week-long workshop to continue to develop their plays led by Nate Eppler, Director of the Playground at the Theater Bug, and the Theater Bug’s Managing Artistic Director Cori Anne Laemmel.
The plays are presented as staged readings featuring both Theater Bug’s incredible young performers as well as professional local artists. The Ten-Minute Play Festival proudly features 16 local professional actors and directors including Jon Royal, Lauren Berst, Bakari Jamal King, Rachel Agee, Diego Gomez, Jennifer Whitcomb-Oliva and more.
The Theater Bug Ten-Minute Play Festival is running two nights only, January 28th and 29th, at Riverside Revival in East Nashville. Each night of the festival features four brand-new plays, and audiences are encouraged to experience both nights. Some plays feature mature themes, please use discretion when bringing audience members under 13 years old.
In addition to the ten-minute plays, audiences will get a special first look at the Theater Bug’s upcoming 2023 productions: A scene from the new play My Favorite Season by Liliana Gomez, this year’s Playground Playwright, and a special preview of the new musical Shadow by Cori Anne Laemmel and Laura Matula.
