The Montreal English Theatre Awards Committee is proud to announce the recipients of the 2019-20 METAs, Montreal English theatre's largest and most important peer-juried awards. The 8th Annual METAs Ceremony was held this Sunday evening, November 29th and was streamed virtually to both the METAs' YouTube page and Facebook page.
For the first time in its history, the Montreal English Theatre Awards Committee announced the nominees for this year's Awards Ceremony during a live streamed event.
From January 14th to February 2nd, Montreal-based playwright Erin Shields blasts 2020 wide open by turning heaven and hell upside down in Paradise Lost, a witty, modern, and feminist reimagining of John Milton's account of the first battle between good and evil. Directed by Jackie Maxwell, former Shaw Festival Artistic Director (2002-2016), Canadian stage icon Lucy Peacock recreates the role of Satan, bookended by Amelia Sargisson as Eve and Qasim Khan as Adam. The three original company members from the 2018 Stratford-commissioned hit are supported by the Stratford designers, but the remaining cast, Centaur's largest this season, and the stage management team are all from Montreal.
Artistic and Executive Director, Eda Holmes, announces a striking line-up for Centaur Theatre's 51st season with carefully selected plays and events that cater to every taste. As the theatre steps into a new era under the aegis of Ms. Holmes, the spectrum of entertainment, informative initiatives, and ancillary events continues to expand, offering unparalleled, engaging theatre that reflects today's world and the people shaping it. With a new season come thrilling new opportunities. The main stage ESSENTIAL SERIES is condensed to five productions, leaving room to add new, exciting events to the CENTAUR PRESENTS SERIES and the enriching CONVERSATIONS SERIES.
